Review: EarFun Free 2 True Wireless Earbuds

If you’re looking for the latest budget-friendly wireless earphones available in the market, then you can check the EarFun Free 2. The EarFun Free 2 is perfect for music lovers, fitness buff and mobile gamers who will surely like the features that comes with it.

Priced at PHP2,490, the EarFun Free Pro 2 is available at all Digital Walker stores nationwide, official store website www.digitalwalker.ph and e-commerce stores on Shopee and Lazada.

So, let’s dive on with the review of the EarFun Free 2.

Build Quality and Controls

Inside the box you have EarFun Free 2 earbuds, charging case, USB-C cable, ear tips and user manual.

The charging case looks like a pill-shaped oval design but a little taller with a smooth curved edge. It has a nice black elegant matte finish making it less prone against fingerprint smudges. It is compact and lightweight that’s enough to put into your pocket or bag.

On the front you have a LED indicator; USB Type-C port and charging case button at the back; EarFun logo on the top of the cover; and some information on the product located at the bottom.

The earbuds have a bulging round design with the touch multifunction control zone having a triangular shaped area with an EarFun logo on it. It has a semi-gloss finish made with good durable polycarbonate plastic material.

Despite the fact we find the earbuds having a large oval-shaped build design, they are still light and allows a secure comfortable fit.

You have responsive touch controls that can do the following:

  • Tap Left or Right earbud twice to play/ pause music
  • Tap Right earbud once to increase the volume
  • Tap Left earbud once to decrease volume
  • Tap Right earbud three times to skip a track
  • Tap Left earbud three times to return to the previous track
  • Hold Right earbud to activate the voice assistant on your phone
  • Hold Left earbud to activate the Low Latency mode

We just find it a bit challenging when you take out each earbud from the case due to the lack of space, its round edges, very tacky magnet and the glossy surface really doesn’t help at all. There was an instance that I almost drop the charging case when I tried plucking out the earbuds for the first time.

Pairing and Charging

If you’re pairing it for the first time to your device, simply open the charging case to power on the earbuds entering into pairing mode. Activate the Bluetooth of your device to scan or search for new Bluetooth devices. Select “EarFun Free 2” from the list then connect. If you need to pair it to another device you must unpair or disconnect it.

Pairing to another new device cannot be done with the earbuds so you need to put them back to the charging case. Next, make sure they are charging keeping the cover lid open then press and hold the charging case button at the back for 2 seconds until you see the LED indicators flash in blue rapidly.

Charging the EarFun Free 2 gives you some alternatives either thru its USB-C cable or wireless charging. It has a built-in fast charging feature that can give you 2 hours playtime for a 10-minute charge.

EarFun claims that you can utilize the Free 2 with up to a total of 30-hour playtime with 7 hours on the earbuds plus 23 Hours more with its charging case.

The LED indicator will flash with the following color and status of how much battery is left on the charging case. A green and orange light at 30%, Red 10% and a flashing Red light at 5% which you need to recharge the case immediately. On USB-C cable or wireless charging you get a red light indicating that the case is charging while a green light means that the charge is complete.

Notable Features

It is equipped the latest technologies from Qualcomm. The Qualcomm QCC3040 SoC with aptXTM audio technology keeps your audio and video in sync without damaging the quality. Qualcomm TrueWireless Mirroring Technology ensures stable transmission and uninterrupted connection. Get calls less noise and super-precise voice isolation with Qualcomm cVcTM 8.0 echo cancelling and noise suppression (ECNS).

The Free 2 offers a 60ms Low Latency Mode that improves video and gaming experience.

Powerful and immersive sound powered by Dual 6mm Composite Dynamic Drivers.

It has an IPX7 waterproof rating that can withstand during a rainfall, sweat, or even taking a shower. With its SweatShield technology it keeps every single bead of sweat on the outside where it belongs letting you have no worries during an intense workout with the device.

Connectivity, Call and Sound Quality

The EarFun Free 2 performs nicely within a range of musical genres from hip-hop, alternative, rock, acoustic etc. the vocals are clear, bass are present and the trebles are sharp but controlled.

What I love mostly on these earbuds is having that strong bass thump as it packs a pleasant blow to my ears. I was able to play mostly R&B and hip-hop on the EarFun Free 2 as I admire that energetic bass coming out like songs from Forgot About Dre by Eminem & Dr. Dre, Low by Flo Rida or No Lie by 2 Chain.

So far, the EarFun Free 2 is a good all-around gaming earbuds to play your preferred online games. It’s even better for watching videos as similar to what we experience with the voice quality still being clear and offers a wider sound. Between the audio and video sync of my laptop and phone with the earbuds are fairly good and if there’s a delay you can try to activate the built-in low latency mode feature.

For faster and more stable connection the EarFun Free 2  offers the latest version with Bluetooth 5.2. Connection on the earbuds are very stable even if I just went to the other room you are still connected to your device. You can use the Free 2 up to a Bluetooth range of up to 15 meters. I can also connect the Earbud Free 2 on my MacBook Pro with no worries.

For calls with the EarFun Free 2 you get a decent clear conversation with the person you’re talking with but it’s a little bit low although my volume is at 75% already. But still calls on the Free 2 is still doable for me and the surroundings around you are nicely lessened.
