We got the privilege to review a new wireless earbud sent to us from our good friends at Digital Walker.
It’s the new EarFun Free Pro 2 a compact wireless earbud with active-noise canceling and wireless charging feature offering an admirable sound quality.
Priced at PHP4,690, the EarFun Free Pro 2 is available at all Digital Walker stores nationwide, official store website www.digitalwalker.ph and e-commerce stores on Shopee and Lazada.
Build Quality and Controls
Inside the box you have EarFun Free Pro 2 earbuds, charging case, USB-C cable, ear tips, rubber ear hooks, cleaning stick, cleaning card guide and user manual.
The design of the charging case looks like a tiny pebble with smooth rounded corners that feels comfortable in your hands. It’s compact, lightweight made of aluminum alloy with durable plastic material with a nice matte finish in a space gray color making it less prone to fingerprint smudges.
On the front you have a single LED light, a USB Type C port in the back, EarFun logo on the top cover lid and few information located at the bottom.
The EarFun Free Pro 2 earbuds gets a nice ergonomic design as well, they’re lighter and comfortable to wear for long periods. You can see that the shape of the earbuds goes along with the charging case.
I just can barely sense that these earbuds are in my ears because each weighs a mere 4.1 grams. You can change the ear tips for that perfect fit plus you get three sizes of ear hooks that helps keep them secure further.
The earbuds have the following features a microphone, touch control zone, charging contacts and LED indicator.
You get intuitive touch control capabilities located on the outside of each earbud where the EarFun logo is located. You will be able to play/pause your music or video, skip tracks, adjust the volume, activate voice assistant and active noise cancellation feature.
Here are some of the controls:
- Double tap Left or Right earbud to play/pause music
- Double tap Left or Right earbud to Answer/End a call
- Hold 2 seconds Left or Right earbud to reject a call
- Tap Right earbud to increase the volume
- Tap Left earbud to decrease volume
- Triple-tap Right earbud to skip to the next track
- Triple-tap Left earbud to return to activate the gaming mode
- Hold 2 seconds Right earbud to activate the voice assistant
- Hold 2 seconds Left earbud to switch between ANC, Transparency mode or ANC off
Kudos to EarFun for providing a cleaning stick in case your charging contact on the earbuds maybe stained due to sweat causing it to fail to charge. Another case would be if the protective grille on both earbuds accumulates earwax or dust resulting to a muffled volume.
Pairing and Charging
Pairing your earbuds is easy! Just open the charging case the earbuds will automatically power on entering into pairing mode. On your device, open the Bluetooth settings and it will search for other Bluetooth devices. Select “EarFun Free Pro 2” from the list then you’re good to go.
You can also pair both earbuds to your device while in your ear, just hold both earbuds in the touch control area for 3 seconds until they flash in blue light entering into pairing mode. Search on the new device and connect. Using this option was a little bit of a challenge as it will sometimes activate the ANC feature or Active Voice Assistant if you do not touch it at the same time.
To power off the earbuds you can place them back into the charging case then cover the lid. It also automatically power off after 30 minutes if its not connected to any device.
Battery capacity of each earbuds offers a 35mAh and 420mAh for the charging case.
EarFun claimed that the battery life on the Free Pro 2 can lasts up to a total of 30-hour playtime. At full charge you can initially use it up to 6 hours with ANC powered on, then recharge with the charging case up to 4 times (up to 24 hours). It also has fast charging support with a 10-minute charge can already give you up to 2 hours playtime.
In terms of charging, the Free Pro 2 is also equipped with a wireless charging feature especially if you have a charging pad. It will take you around 3.5 hours for a complete charge on the charging case. While charging on the USB Type-C will be around 2 hours only.
Notable Features
The connectivity is good! It is equipped with an advanced Bluetooth 5.2 that’s supported by the Latest AIROHA AB1562A Chip that lower power consumption extending the earbuds usage. The range can give you up to 15 meters of no obstacle and I even stayed connected when I switch from the other room.
If you want less distracting noises in your environment, the EarFun Free Pro 2 has a built-in QuietSmart 2.0 Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation up to 40dB while turning it off activates the Transparent Mode which allows ambient sound to come in.
You have an enhanced 6-Microphone Array Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC) Technology for crystal clear call.
It offers a balanced superior sound with dual 6.0 mm low-distortion composite dynamic drivers.
The earbuds features a <80ms Low Latency Mode that can improve video and gaming experience.
With an IPX5 rating the EarFun Free Pro 2 can withstand sweat and water resistant like rain which is good if you’re using it for sports.
Call and Sound Quality
For calls you have microphones built into the earbuds and answering an incoming or rejecting a call is just a tap away in the touch control zone. I tested the call quality and was impressed as the call from the other end sounded clear and loud. However, the person I’m talking can hear a bit of noise from the environment where I am doing the call. Like the sound of the tricycle passing by outside our house or if my kids are shouting during their playtime at the house.
As for the sound quality of the EarFun Free Pro 2 they are pretty good especially when your active noise-cancelling is turned on so we first recommend it. The quality then drops a little when you decided to turn off the noise-cancelling.
Back to the sound quality, while listening to music the vocals are clear and the overall audio is balanced from its low, mids and highs. The bass are present and with prominence, you can hear the thump and deep low boom. I experienced those prominent bassline when I listened to The Smiths Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now or The Cure’s Just Like Heaven wherein the bass starts in the intro part.
The treble and upper-mid tones are brighter like the strum of the electronic guitars, synthesizer, violins, tambourine and cymbals on the drums. This is evident when I tried listening to Your Love from The Outfield, it really was amazing you can noticeably hear the synthesizers and riffs on the electric guitar.
With that bright sound, extra bass thump, clear vocals and good pitched treble watching video and playing games with the EarFun Free Pro 2 are also great!
Conclusion
If you’re looking for a new pair of ANC wireless earbuds with great quality sound, we recommend you try the EarFun Free Pro 2. It’s a remarkable day-to-day companion for personal and work if you want to play your music, hands-free calls to a client or watch your favorite videos.
We love the whole design and the materials used for the charging case up to the earbuds. It’s lightweight and comfortable as you can barely feel it in your ears.
You get a nice decent set of features from its good active noise cancelling capabilities, IPX5 rating, intuitive touch controls, gaming mode and upright set of composite dynamic drivers.
At PHP4,690, the EarFun Free Pro 2 is an excellent investment if you’re that someone who loves the freedom from wires and desired sound quality is an important must-have feature.
