Review: Motivo H112 10,000mAh Power Bank

With the vast number of portable chargers available in the market, many power bank manufacturers are seeking ways to differentiate their products from the competition.

These companies are now prioritizing the development of new and attractive innovative designs. Traditionally, we have seen that power bank designs have adhered to a standard template: a rectangular or cylindrical shape with a sleek finish, along with a handful of ports.

Motivo Philippines, an international electronics company with over two decades of experience in manufacturing innovative technology products and solutions, is changing the way power banks are designed today. The brand is spearheading a notable trend by incorporating see-through outer shells and equipping them with larger battery capacities, as seen in the new Motivo H112 model.

We had the opportunity to experience the Motivo H112 firsthand as we explored its various features. In this review, we’ll delve into the device’s capabilities to determine if it’s a solid choice for users seeking such a product.

Unboxing

Motivo used a thick cardboard type material for the H112’s packaging box that boasts a minimalist design predominantly in white except for the bottom flap printed in vibrant red.

It is finished with a matte coating to add an air of sophistication to the overall design of the box.

On the front, you can spot the Motivo logo, the 10,000mAh label, and model name, all printed using a foil stamping effect. You’ll also see a printed image of the H112 printed with UV lamination coating.

At the back it has some additional printed elements including a lifestyle image of the H112, detailed product specifications, certification marks, and company information.

When you open the box, you’ll find a compartment box made of durable plastic. Taking it out, you’ll immediately see the H112 power bank along with a USB-A to Micro USB cable which is a bit short.

It doesn’t have any documentation like a quick start guide or warranty card inside the box.

I liked how Motivo does the design of its packaging box as it gives you a sense of professionalism and a premium feel.

Design and Build Quality

The first thing I noticed about the Motivo H112 is its portable size, measuring 5.3 x 3.5 x 8.5 cm and weighing just only 144 grams.

This makes it ideal for on-the-go use and putting it easily into pockets or bags, ensuring convenience for users.

One of the prominent features of the Motivo H112 is the physical design, as you can see, the battery pack has a transparent outer shell made of durable polycarbonate plastic material that lets you see its internal cores.

You can instantly see the circuit board on the top with capacitors, diodes, ports, and the LED battery indicator. Meanwhile the bottom part houses the battery cells which are concealed within the shell.

To check the remaining battery of the H112, simply press the power button to display the battery percentage on the LED indicator. The LED indicator will automatically turn off after 30 seconds or double press the power button again.

At the top end, there’s a USB-A port and a power button set clad in an all-black polycarbonate plastic material with a matte finish. Black colored bolted screws and printed labels, including the Motivo logo and the 22.5W fast charging markings, are also placed there.

On the opposite end, you’ll find a USB-C port, retaining the same material, color and finish as the top end plate. However, the printed labels will be different featuring PD 20W and Type-C Out/In markings.

The rear of the Motivo H112 appears minimalist and devoid of any design elements except for those subtle printed markings that’s barely visible inside the outer shell. These markings include the Motivo logo, input/output voltage information, battery capacity, and certification marks.

Input/Output Ports

The Motivo H112 powerbank has its ports designed on the top and bottom to provide flexibility for users.

Motivo carefully planned in placing ports on both ends to allow for easier access and better cable management, accommodating various device orientations and charging configurations. It can also distribute heat more evenly, helping to prevent overheating during charging sessions with multiple devices.

Plus, the design ensures that users can connect their devices comfortably, whether they’re using the power bank while it’s lying flat or standing upright.

Located on the top you have a single USB-A port that supports 22.5W fast charging technology.

You may wonder why it still incorporates a USB-A port? Probably the good reason behind this choice is to ensure a wider compatibility with various older devices including those models that may not support USB-C charging. For example, my Xiaomi Band smartwatch utilizes a USB-A magnetic charging cable as well as some of my Bluetooth earbuds which is kind of helpful and the necessity for maintaining USB-A compatibility port.

While the bottom port features a 20W USB-C Power Delivery feature for output and input charging. If you have Apple devices the 20W power delivery is much better to use as it is the standard quick charging technology of the brand.

Battery

The Motivo H112 is equipped with a 10,000mAh power capacity using a lithium-ion polymer battery.

Electronic companies would commonly opt for a lithium-ion polymer battery as a versatile form of rechargeable energy storage. These batteries offer high energy density, longevity, safety features, and efficiency, making them ideal for a wide range of applications from portable electronics to electric vehicles.

Once you plug the cable from the power bank into your device, it will quickly begin charging, then the battery LED indicator will remain illuminated throughout the charging process.

We liked how the LED indicator shows off real-time charging voltages which is very convenient.

With its 20W PD output, the Motivo H112 power bank efficiently charged our vivo X80, starting from 25 percent in 15 minutes and reaching 48 percent after 30 minutes. Even after this 30-minute charge cycle, the H112 retained a significant 75% capacity. Fully charging the vivo X80 took just 1 hour and 41 minutes, leaving the H112 with 42 percent battery, enough for another phone charge.

When charging the Motivo H112, the powerbank reached an initial 40 percent after 40 minutes, and then climbed to 63 percent after another 40 minutes of charge. It took us around 2 hours and 28 minutes to fully charge it from 0 to 100 percent.

We were able to charge multiple devices using both ports with the H112, including a smartwatch, Bluetooth earbuds, and more, without encountering any problems. However, the consequence is that the battery will drain quickly.

The Motivo H112 lacks support for wireless charging. However, if this isn’t a significant concern for you, then this power bank is still a good choice.

Safety Protection

Just like the Motivo H109, the H112 still has safety protection features including an overcharge, overcurrent, short-circuit, discharge, overuse, over-voltage, and overuse protection that will help to aid in the safety of both the power bank and the devices it charges.

Here’s an description of the safety protection features on the Motivo H112 for you to be aware of each one’s function:

  • Overcharge Protection– It prevents the power bank from supplying more electricity to the battery, safeguarding the device’s battery against damage or overheating.
  • Overcurrent Protection– It disables charging when the battery voltage and current goes above a safe threshold.
  • Short-Circuit Protection– It disables charging on the device or the power bank if a short circuit is detected.
  • Discharge Protection – It prevents battery cells from overdischarging and cuts off discharge current when the cell voltage reaches the overdischarge threshold.
  • Over-voltage Protection– It stops any charging current from going into the battery when the voltage exceeds a preset level thus protects the battery from being over charged.

It’s good to know that the Motivo H112 is equipped with a comprehensive array of safety protection features, unlike those other power banks on the market that typically offer only one or two such features.

Pricing and Availability

The Motivo H112, boasting a substantial 10,000mAh battery capacity, will be available at a suggested retail price of PHP1,699 with support for 1-year warranty.
