The drastic effects of Covid 19 continue to be immensely felt all throughout the year. Though the initial roll out of vaccines are highly encouraged, the country remains to struggle on fully recovering. Amid the country’s stirring challenges, a helpful trend has bagged so much clamor unto society. This initiative of doing a community pantry restores faith in humanity and encourages a more disciplined camaraderie system to mitigate the insufficiency of daily needs of underprivileged households. M Lhuillier took the initiative to support these PaMLyang Pilipinos who needed help.
On April 28 and 30, 2021, M Lhuillier branches in Jaro Iloilo and in Mawab Davao de Oro conducted their first Community Pantries. The situation at Sitio Upper San Isidro, Brgy Nuevo, Mawab, Davao de Oro was quite a challenge since the road going to the said Barangay was impassable. The team experienced trekking for about 30 minutes just to reach the venue. They did not feel the scorching heat of the sun on the way there as they were all excited to meet the constituents. While in Barangay Tagbak, Jaro, Iloilo City, implementation of proper health protocols inside the gymnasium was set as the main priority.
Over 300 households benefited from the Community Pantry. Different kinds of vegetables, canned goods, noodles, eggs, buns and rice were distributed. Aside from these basic pantry consumables, M Lhuillier aprons and can-opener-key chains were also given.
Residents and the officials of each Barangay expressed how much they were all ecstatic and grateful for the help provided by MLhuillier. The residents were also inspired to continue participating in the trend of doing community pantries.
