Review: Samsung Galaxy A22 with Camera Samples

Samsung recently released its latest budget-friendly smartphone from its Galaxy A-series designed for gamers, vloggers, students  and fashionistas equipped with a slew innovative features.

The Samsung Galaxy A22 offers a stylish and eye-catching design, vibrant display and a powerful camera for an affordable price of PHP 11,990 now available on Samsung Online Store and Experience Stores as well as on Lazada and Shopee.

So let’s dive in to see the new features of the Samsung Galaxy A22.

Form Factor and Display 

The Samsung Galaxy A22 is very slim which has a nice premium and stylish design with the back made of a sturdy polycarbonate material with a shiny glossy finish which can definitely cause some fingerprint smudges. On its sides you have a metal like frame with no curve design on its edges but its moderately lightweight. So far its comfortable to hold the device with one hand.

On the front, there’s a Infinity U teardrop notch on the front camera and bezels all-around it are slim except on the bottom chin of the display. On the right you have the volume rockers, side-mounted fingerprint sensor clubbed with the power/sleep button and on the right you have the SIM card tray. A microphone on the top while a 3.5mm port, microphone, speaker grille and USB Type-C port.

On the back you have a square type Quad Rear Camera setup with an LED Flash and a Samsung logo below. The Galaxy A22 comes in a four color variants Black, White, pastel Mint and Violet.

The Galaxy A22 offers an immersive 6.4-inch Super AMOLED Display with a 90Hz refresh rate for a smooth scrolling, responsive and easily switch between apps. Looking at the display we like how it is bold, bright, vibrant, colorful and text are decently sharp. This makes the Galaxy A22 a perfect device for watching your favorite entertainment meda or play your favorite games on the attractive display.

You get some other additional features for your display such as Eye Comfort Shield reduces harmful blue light, dark mode, adaptive brightness, and edge panel option to access shortcuts or other data by swiping towards the center of your screen.

Performance and Software

Powering the Galaxy A22 is an ARM MT6769V/CT octa-core chipset with six cores clocked at 1.80GHz and 2 cores clocked at 2.00 GHz. Upon checking the model number of the chipset we found out that it is using the MediaTek Helio G80 chipset.

It. is equipped with a 4GB memory and 64GB internal storage with an expandable microSD up to 1TB. For graphics it is supported by a Mali-G52 MC2 chipset. 

Sounds on the device are coming out from the speakers at the bottom. So far there are no special features on it however the quality seems decent enough as voices are clear, mids are good but the bass are lacking. In the sound settings you can also choose equalizer to set it in pop, classic, jazz, rock or custom your type of sound usage.

User interface on the Galaxy A22 uses Samsung’s One UI Core based on Android 11 with a seamless and clean software. It has some few pre-installed apps such as Netflix, Lazada, Facebook and Twitter.

Camera

The Galaxy A22’s Quad Rear Camera is equipped with a 48MP Main Camera, 8MP Ultra-Wide with a 123-degree field of vision, 2MP Macro, and 2MP Depth lenses. It is also equipped with an Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) for a smooth steady video.

The 2MP Macro Lens can shoot close-ups like food, flowers, toys, and more while the 2MP Depth Camera is perfect for portrait shots as it gently blurs the background to highlight the subject.

For selfies the front facing camera offers a 13MP with Selfie Focus and Smart Beauty feature.

Shooting modes available on the camera app are Portrait, Photo, Video, Food, Panorama, PRO, Night, Macro, Slow Motion and Hyperlapse. With Night Mode you can get a decent photo during low light conditions.

The Galaxy A22 sports an intelligent AI camera experience to capture the best content and Scene Optimizer recognizes 20 types of scenes and automatically adjusts the exposure, contrast, white balance, and more.

For video, you can choose on both the front and rear with an available 1080p FHD and 720p HD at 30 fps

Battery and Security

The Galaxy A22 is powered with a large 5,000mAh of battery and a 15W Fast Charging technology feature to juice up when the battery runs low.

Charging the Galaxy A22 for 15 minutes will get you a 12% load on its battery and it took us almost 2 1/2 hours to have the battery from 0% to 100%.

Others useful features found under the battery settings are Power Saving Mode and Adaptive Battery to limit usage for apps you don’t use often. There is no wireless charging feature present on this device.

For security, the Galaxy A22 offers a fast side-mounted fingerprint unlock, face unlock, pattern, PIN and password.

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy A22 offers a surprisingly good set of features we liked. First, we loved the vibrant and immersive 6.4-inch SuperAMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, available wide-angle camera lens, large 5,000mAh battery and clean user interface with the One UI Core.
