Review: OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G (12GB+256GB)

OPPO finally unveiled its latest flagship Portrait Expert smartphones with three new models – OPPO Reno10 5G, OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G, and OPPO Reno10 Pro+ 5G.

All three new OPPO Reno10 5G series will be sporting the brand’s first-ever Telephoto Portrait Camera for users to experience sharp and beautiful portrait shots. Aside from the additional camera features, it also comes with SUPERVOOC fast charging technology, powerful chipsets, and the latest UI with ColorOS13.

For our review, we got the middle variant of the Reno10 5G series with the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G.

Let’s get up close and personal with the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G as we share our experience and the new features sporting this new device.

Unboxing

The packaging for the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G is very simple in an all-white colored box with a holographic foil label to give the overall box design a sense of quality and a bit of luxury.

A few printed elements can be found on the box like an OPPO logo, the phone’s model name, and the specs of the phone.

Opening the box, you’ll immediately see a compartment box that holds some of the included accessories. Taking it out will reveal the phone itself then underneath it you’ll see the charger and cable.

Taking everything out of the box will reveal the following contents:

  • OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G Unit
  • SIM Ejector Tool
  • Protective Case (Gray Color)
  • USB-A to USB-C Cable
  • Safety Guide
  • Quick Guide
  • Screen Protector (Pre-applied)

Design and Build Quality

The Reno10 Pro 5G will be available in two colorways – Glossy Purple and our review unit in a Silvery Grey variant. All these colors and their texture look very appealing.

For the Silvery Grey, the brand uses its OPPO Glow design to create the classic Gray color into a more premium look. The Silvery Grey color of the back panel has a fine shimmery metallic texture or a frosted-glass effect that also helps to repel fingerprint smudges.

If you tilt the phone sideways, you’ll spot a CD-like laser-beam pattern that circulates around the main camera.

The Reno10 Pro 5G is easy to carry as it weighs only 185 grams and it’s a thin device measuring 162.3 x 74.2 x 7.89 mm.

Looking at the rear panel, OPPO made a fresh new look on the camera module with a laser-centric camera matrix design.

It has a two-tone design, a circular main camera, and an LED flash housed in the upper half. That top portion when you tilt it sideways emits a CD pattern metal effect with a radial laser beam surrounding the main camera.

The lower half of the camera module houses the telephoto and wide-angle camera encased in a beautiful black glass material.

An OPPO logo is also seen at the bottom left corner.

The camera bump is slightly protruding but not too much. It will still cause a slight wobble, just use the included case if you’re too bothered with it.

With the nice curved edges, I like how comfortable and easy for me to hold securely the phone unlike other that offers a flat edge design.

The body of the Reno10 Pro 5G is constructed in a three-piece assembly that is all stuffed together to make it look thin and visually attractive.

The Reno10 Pro 5G has a 3D curved design with the front screen getting a 56-degree curve while the sides of the rear panel also have a similar slope. This makes both sides of the phone quite identical which are then tucked into a thin middle frame that’s also curved.

The front glass is an AGC Dragontrail Star 2 which makes it scratch resistant and has a smooth surface finish. I was also happy that a screen protector is already applied to the glass, so no need to buy one.

The back panel is made of glass-like plastic while the aluminum frame has a glossy finish.

The overall design process for the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G was very well-put-together as the phone feels very sturdy.

It has thin volume rockers and a power button placed on the right side edge. For aesthetics, the power button has a small thin green line at the center.

The left side edges of the frame are completely empty.

A lot is going on at the bottom side of the frame you have the SIM tray, a primary microphone, a speaker grille, and a USB-C port.

You’ll have a flat edge on the top side of the phone which holds the IR blaster and a secondary microphone.

On the front, you have thin bezels on the top at 1.81 mm, both sides are at 1.57 mm, while the bottom bezels are a bit raised measuring at 2.32 mm. The front-facing camera has a punch-hole design found at the top center of the screen.

Display

The OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G offers a 6.7-inch OLED 3D Curved display with a resolution of 2412×1080 pixels, 394 ppi for its pixel density, and support for 120Hz refresh rate.

Screen refresh rate can be selected in 60Hz to conserve battery or auto mode to balance out between battery usage and smooth visuals.

The display panel has a maximum peak brightness of 950 nits with HDR. It is very bright when used indoors especially at night. But using it under direct sunlight the phone’s display may struggle a bit reading on the display.

The screen offers a nice real estate allowing for the Reno10 Pro 5G to have a 93 percent screen-to-body ratio and an aspect ratio of 20.1:9. It’s just the right size to watch your favorite video content and play your favorite mobile games.

Aside from having a high-resolution screen, the phone can display 1 billion colors and supports 100% of the DCI-P3 wide gamut color.

It has a high-frequency 2160Hz PWM dimming feature that can help users to reduce eyestrain and a more comfortable visual experience under low-light conditions.

The phone has a 240Hz touch sampling rate enough for daily use to respond more accurately to your inputs.

Enjoy watching your favorite streaming apps on the Reno10 Pro 5G with HDR 10+ support for a high-quality content viewing experience.

Performance

The OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G octa-core processor built on a 6nm process technology with clock speed up to 2.4GHz. It has an Adreno 642L for its GPU to help games look good and attractive.

The chipsets are paired with 12GB of actual RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The storage is not expandable as there are no slots available for a MicroSD card on the SIM tray.

To launch apps faster or run more of them in the background, the phone can use OPPO’s RAM expansion technology by temporarily converting unused internal storage space into memory. You can opt to upgrade the RAM up to 4GB, 8GB, or 12GB.

Here are the benchmark scores we got on the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G.

  • Geekbench 6 CPU Score: 1024 Single-Core / 2836 Multi-Core ScoreGeekbench 6 GPU Score: 2108 OpenCL Score
  • CPDT: 436.53MB/s Sequential Write 4MB / 452.02MB/s Sequential Read 4MB
  • 3DMark: 2482 (14.90 Average Frame Rate)
  • PCMark: 9260

For more stable system performance and smoother user experience on the Reno10 Pro 5G. It has an integrated Dynamic Computing Engine, OPPO and Google’s co-developed management system, improving hardware efficiency thus boosting performance and reducing power consumption. This feature is essential for individual app performance, multitasking, and at the same time sustaining the power consumption of the device.

We were able to play some of the most heavy-duty graphic games like Call of Duty, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Mobile Legends Bang-Bang, Genshin Impact, and PUBG on the phone. So, far we are satisfied with the game performance we didn’t experience any lag.

Although playing these games for long periods of hours, we could feel a slight warm build-up from the back panel. But, there’s no need to worry as the device features an ultra-conductive cooling system that includes a large vapor cooling area to aid in lowering heat. It provides a smooth and enjoyable gameplay without compromising the performance.

The Reno10 Pro 5G is equipped with game tools to help you enhance and improve your game performance. The Game Space is a dedicated app that gathers all your favorite games in one place for you to open and view them. Whenever you open or play a game, the Hyper Boost feature will help improve the system and speed performance of your phone for smooth gameplay.

There’s also a game assistant located in the top left corner of your screen. When you swipe right, it will give you access to quick shortcut options like screenshot, call blocker, voice changer, volume settings, and even optimize your game performance.

The Reno10 Pro 5G has received an A Rating in the TÜV SÜD 48-Month Fluency Certification. It’s another important credential for this phone confirming that it will work efficiently and still at optimal speed for up to 4 years.

Audio from the Reno10 Pro 5G is mostly coming out from its bottom-firing speakers that produce a decently good sound.

During our test, we tried listening to our Spotify playlist, playing games, watch YouTube videos, and we found the audio to be relatively respectable. It delivers clear vocals, good mid-tones, and the bass is quite a bit present but not that powerful.

The Reno10 Pro 5G has Real Sound Technology an audio enhancement setup with four audio presets that can enhance sound quality based on your use. It has a Movie, Game, Music, and a Smart mode that automatically recognizes scenarios and adapts the sound properly.

There’s no 3.5mm headphone jack on the phone if you need to use your wired headphones. With Bluetooth headphones, you can easily connect it to the Reno10 Pro 5G which will make your audio experience much better.

It is a 5G-ready device supporting the latest 5G network and can accommodate two nano dual SIM. For connectivity, you get Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6/5, and NFC to accept mobile payments in a contactless format.

Camera Lenses

One of the key highlights of the Reno10 Pro 5G is its powerful and versatile camera.

The phone has a total of three cameras on the back with the main camera getting a 50MP lens and an optical image stabilization. The main camera is using a Sony IMX890 with a sensor size of 1/1.56 inches, and an aperture of f/1.8. It also has a 24mm focal length, 6P lens module, and multi-directional phase detection autofocus (PDAF).

The 32MP lens is OPPO’s telephoto portrait camera using a Sony IMX709 sensor, f/2.0 aperture, and 47mm focal length. You can take closer shots with a 2X optical zoom and 20X digital zoom.

The third camera is an ultra-wide angle with an 8MP lens with a Sony IMX355 sensor, f/2.2 aperture, and a focal length of 16mm. It has a field of view of 112 degrees.

For the front camera, you’ll have a 32MP lens with autofocus using a Sony IMX709 sensor. The lens has a f/2.4 aperture with a focal length of 21mm and a 5P lens module. It supports facial recognition technology to better detect faces, especially in shooting group portraits.

Camera App

The camera app on the Reno10 Pro 5G has a simple properly laid out interface that offers all the standard shooting options and modes you’d expect.

You have four standard shooting modes already available on the camera app with Night, Video, Photo, and Portrait. Selecting more options will reveal eight more shooting modes with the Pro, Extra HD, Pano, Slo-Mo, Time-Lapse, Dual-View Video, Sticker, and Text Scanner.

If you want a professional-looking closeup shot, or just a good selfie without focusing on what’s in the background. You can achieve this with the Portrait mode, which has adjustment tools that you can use to change the aperture, add portrait effect filters with a bokeh flare, color filters, and a beauty enhancer. The aperture can be fine-tuned to the amount of bokeh you want from a value between f/1.4 to f/16.

By default, you have 0.6x, 1x, 2x, and 5x zoom switch options accessible on the rear camera app. The digital zoom can go as far as up to 20x. The front camera will have zoom switch options of 0.8x, 1x, and 2x. Along with the zoom switch options are a Google lens shortcut, retouch, and color filters.

At the top end of the viewfinder, you have the flash modes, timer, Hi-res 50MP, aspect ratio, and a hamburger menu for the HDR and the camera app settings.

To overcome the challenges of shooting in a low-light environment, the Reno10 Pro 5G has a Night mode. The Night mode will automatically get a good exposure of the subject with the help of its camera sensors and undergoes a fully upgraded processing algorithm. Each frame is processed using AI Denoise, AI Demosaic, deep pixel fusion, and other processes in the RAW domain. Therefore, it improves the details, and color reproduction as well as restoring the light and shadow of your photos.

Camera – Video

On the rear camera, the Reno10 Pro 5G can record videos with a maximum resolution of 4K at 30fps. You can also capture videos at 1080p and 720p resolutions with available frame rates of 30fps and 60fps.

Selfie videos will let you record at 1080p or 720p resolution at 30fps.

You can enable the ultra-steady mode for both the rear and front cameras for smooth video and steady shots.

High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) is available if you wish to record in that format saving you space and maintaining the same video quality.

We tried to get video footage for our test samples using the main camera either indoor or outdoor shots with good lighting conditions. As we preview the videos, it did capture some pretty good video quality with nice details, lesser noise levels, and colors that are true to life.

Camera Test

The main camera on the Reno10 Pro 5G can generate remarkable results, especially under good lighting conditions. You have crisp details, and colors are natural with a slight vibrancy. It also offers good contrast and dynamic range.

Due to the OPPO’s image algorithm, it further enhances the photos for the final result to turn out well. Here is a simple tip. What you actually see on the viewfinder of the camera app may be altered from the actual outcome. So, we advise you always check your image and reshoot if needed.

OPPO confidently flaunts the capabilities of its telephoto camera of the Reno10 Pro 5G. It’s one of the key highlight features of this phone. OPPO wants its users to take beautiful portrait photography shots on this telephoto camera. And on our camera test, it is indeed quite impressive!

The portrait shots can be taken with 1x and 2x optical zoom, which is already more than enough in daily use.

It has solid edge detection and pulls off a pleasing bokeh effect around the subjects in the frame. I also liked the bokeh flare effect, and you need to try it. When we shoot portraits with a light source in the background, it creates these nice bokeh light spots at different depths. The bokeh flare effect also works very well on product shots.

Photos came out sharp, facial features are noticeable, and color reproduction was excellent. The subject separation from the background is good if you get the right amount of blur adjustment.

Enabling the High-Resolution Camera mode will let you shoot photos in its full 50MP and 32MP resolutions. Although, we find that the images are almost the same quality as the regular photos we took. It just adds a little more detail to the quality. You also get a much larger file size that will also consume your internal storage.

The ultrawide camera looks fine in terms of detail, the dynamic range is decent, and color reproduction is a bit saturated. We noticed some photos have a slight barrel distortion that is typically present on wide-angle lenses.

Our selfies on the front-facing camera look nice with facial features having a good amount of details, fine contrast, and natural skin color. The built-in autofocus is a big help to get a sharp and focused image.

Selfie in portrait mode will produce impressive results as well. With the right aperture adjustment, the subject between the background will have good separation. I also liked the bokeh flare effects. I would advise you to check the photo to see if you liked the result and make the necessary changes.

During low lighting conditions, it is better to use the Night mode to help improve the performance of the cameras and the quality of your photos. The images will have a few drawbacks like a slight noise showing up and a bit soft.

The portrait mode when used during low light conditions (but with good ambient lighting) will produce decent photos with details, great colors, and contrast. A slight presence of noise is still present. However, the overall quality of the image is just fine.

Software

The Reno10 Pro 5G runs with ColorOS 13.1 based on Android 13.

It has some pre-installed apps like Facebook, Lazada, LinkedIn, Netflix, Snack Video, Spotify, Shopee, TikTok and more. You also get some of OPPO’s very own in-house apps alongside some Google tools such as Chrome, Drive, Meet, Maps, etc.

There were a few games on the phone like Genshin Impact and a dedicated games folder that you can download or check other gaming apps you like.

If you don’t like some of these apps on your Reno10 Pro 5G it can be easily uninstalled.

The latest ColorOS 13 comes with a whole lot of customization where in you can change wallpapers (live or static), switch icons, change fonts, fingerprint animation, edge lighting, and even modify the color of the entire UI look.

The Dark mode option lets you choose from three different styles – Enhanced, Medium, and Gentle.

If you have the Smart Always-On-Display (AoD) enabled, it lets you view the time and date when the screen is turned off. You can also place an emoji, avatar, custom patterns, text, and image in the AoD. Another new addition you can add to the AoD is a Spotify music playback that is able to show the music info or double tap to bring up the music controls.

You can connect the phone to your PC or tablet for easier cross-device interaction with Multi-Screen Connect.

A handy IR Remote Control feature on the Reno10 Pro 5G can directly control any smart devices (TV, Air Conditioners, Projectors, Streaming Consoles, etc.) or other infrared-enabled electronic gadgets in your home.

One useful feature I like is the Auto Pixelate, I never need to worry about giving away sensitive or private information to others on my screenshot messages as I can blur the profile photo, contact name, or text.

Biometrics and Security

The Reno10 Pro 5G is equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor and face unlock. Both biometrics are fast and quickly unlock the device without any misses.

You also have the regular lock screen password with a Numeric, Alphanumeric, and Pattern.

Worry-less on your phone’s private data or personal information as the Reno10 Pro 5G obtained a series of authoritative third-party safety and privacy certifications which includes ISO27001, ISO27701, ePrivacy, TRUSTe, and more.

Battery

A sizeable battery capacity of 4600mAh is placed on the Reno10 Pro 5G with support for 80W fast charging.

To maximize the fast charging capability of the phone, OPPO is so kind to include an 80W SUPERVOOC charger already in the box. It uses a USB-A to USB-C cable which is pretty much the standard charging cable these days.

With the 80W SUPERVOOC, we got a 45% charge on the phone in just 15 minutes then it went to 76% after 10 minutes. It took 33 minutes only to fully charge the Reno10 Pro 5G from 0 to 100%.

For the first time on the Reno10 Series 5G models, it will support OPPO’s proprietary management chip feature with the SUPERVOOC S Power Management Chip. The SUPERVOOC S is a single powerful chip inside the phone that provides users with a brand-new smart charging experience as it manages the charge, discharge, battery protection, reset, decoding, and circuit breaker. This will further help your battery last longer.

The phone also supports OPPO’s exclusive Battery Health Engine technology to increase the overall lifespan as well as the health of the device’s battery. The 4600mAh battery can now maintain its original capacity after as many as 1600 charge and discharge cycles. It will help keep your battery still in good condition for almost 4 years, which OPPO claims.

Under the battery settings, you still have a power saving mode and super power saving mode that can reduce power consumption by limiting background app activity, visual effects and sounds to extend battery usage.

Conclusion

Every time a new OPPO Reno series comes out in the market, it has always been about the pleasing aesthetics, performance, and photographic features that are gaining much attention for this model.

We love the general design of the new OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G as it looks more stylish and premium in a subdued approach. It offers a slimmer profile, is lightweight, and a 3D curved display. Build quality is at par with extra glass protection for the screen to make it scratch resistant.

The display exhibits vibrant colors, great details, and good wide viewing angles. Sound quality is still good, so watching your favorite streaming content or playing games on this phone is still pretty exciting and enjoyable. The only small drawback is that the screen is not very bright when used under direct sunlight.

The cameras on the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G have a solid performance. It can capture great-looking photos, especially with its telephoto portrait camera. Shooting portraits are great and we were surprised it had the 2X zoom, a bokeh control, and retouch filters in the portrait mode.

The 4600mAh battery is a very sizeable amount to power the phone and helps to achieve that nice slim look. Plus, it has fast charging capability and OPPO also included an 80W SUPERVOOC charger to quickly juice up the phone in just 33 minutes.

Overall, the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G is an exceptional flagship phone offering a great mix of features – an attractive design, a set of excellent cameras, good chipset performance, and great battery life with support for 80W SUPERVOOC fast charging technology, then the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G is a notable choice.
