3-port Car Charger that is Heaven-Sent
Nowadays, people with gadgets either have power banks or extra batteries or wall chargers in their bags. And those people with their own vehicles who travel a lot do have their reliable car charges. I, for one, bring along car chargers when I travel, even if I don’t bring my car because, who knows, if I ran out of batteries while in a taxi or a friend’s car, they come in handy at times.
A regular car would surely have one charger outlet as standard but since most people bring along more than one gadget, a dual USB charger would really solve one of their day to day problems. But what if you have more than two gadgets? Surely, a 3-port USB car charger would be heaven-sent.
One such product is the Power Dash 6.6 from the German manufacturer LAUT. This is a high power 3-port USB car charger with 2 ports giving out 2.1amps and 1 port producing 2.4amps.
Out of the box, the Power Dash 6.6 feels premium as the 3 USB ports are encased in a metal (brushed aluminum) housing (felt like the metal bodies of the new high-end phones) while the terminals are wrapped in hard premium plastic. The unit does not come with any cable, unlike similar premium 2-port USB car chargers that I have that comes with a 1 meter microUSB cable and priced P400 less. For a product priced almost P1,300, a free cable may be a deal breaker.
On a regular working day on my way to Ortigas from Marikina, I usually bring two cellphones — Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and a Samsung Galaxy S5. I use the S5 for my Waze guide trough the metro traffic, while the Note 5 is used as music or video player and Mobile Hotspot to share Internet to my S5. My wife also brings two cellphones and sometimes need another USB charging slot if hers needs charging.
From 50% battery charge, my Note 5 got to 92% only after an hour of charging using the 2.4amp slot, while the S5 got to 100% from a starting charge of 71% after only 30 minutes of charging on the 2.1amp slot.
My cellphones uses 2 different batteries specs. The S5’s battery has a capacity of 2800mAh while the Note 5 uses a bigger 3050mAh battery hence the Note 5 was plugged in the 2.4amp slot while the S5 was plugged in the 2.1amp slot.
Even when being used while charging (which is not advisable to protect the batteries), the 2 cellphones were able to charge to almost full capacity all through my 1 hour of usual travel. Of course, the two phones have different processors (dual core vs quad core vs octa core) which consume power at different levels but that would be a different story. Bottom line is, the bigger the battery capacity, the longer it takes to fully charge it plus takes a bit longer depending on the apps running at the time of charging.
After an hour of heavy use, the body of the Power Dash 6.6 did not feel hot as some cheaper chargers do.
The Power Dash 6.6 snugs perfectly in the car charger slot and will not even wiggle if you try to move it. The 3 ports also keep any USB cable snuggly connected and will not easily come off when you accidentally pull them. You have to really exert extra effort to remove any plugged cable. Once plugged in the car charger slot, the unit will emit a small blue LED indicating that it is correctly plugged in and ready for use.
The Power Dash 6.6 may be called the iPhone of car chargers due to its premium feel, simplicity and down right ease of use. And as with the iPhone, you have to buy all other accessories as it does not include any standard USB cable.
The Laut Power Dash 6.6 is available in all Digital Walker and Beyond the Box stores for P1,295.00.
