First Look: HONOR Magic5 Pro (12GB+256GB) with Camera Test

HONOR Philippines is set to release its latest flagship phone with the HONOR MAGIC5 Pro.

The HONOR Magic5 Pro received numerous awards and recognitions. It took the #1 position in the DXOMARK Smartphone Display ranking for the first quarter of 2023 and was highly recognized during Mobile World Congress 2023 by various tech authorities.

HONOR Philippines invited us for an exclusive media preview of the HONOR Magic5 Pro before its official launch on June 8, 2023.

We were able to spend a few hours with the Magic5 Pro as we did some testing, shooting, and reviewing the phone.

So, here are our initial impressions of the HONOR Magic5 Pro.

Unboxing

The packaging box of the HONOR Magic5 Pro is made of thick cardboard material clad in all-black color with very few elements printed on it.

Opening the box, you’ll immediately see the phone, and underneath is another compartment box that holds the other included accessories.

Taking everything out of the box you get the following contents.

  • HONOR MAGIC 5 Pro Unit
  • SIM Ejector Tool
  • Clear Protective Case
  • USB-A to USB-C Cable

Design and Build Quality

The HONOR Magic5 Pro will have two available colors a classic black with a glossy finish and a very cool-looking Meadow Green in a matte finish that has a slight sparkle effect and helps prevent fingerprint smudges.

The HONOR Magic5 Pro already looks stunning, elegant and boasts a unique design.

It has a nice dual-glass curved design along each side as well as the top and bottom for seamless integration with the chassis and back panel. The glossy frame is made of aluminum with the sides having an 8.77mm thickness.

On the back of the Magic5 Pro, the rear panel is made of glass having a large circular camera module with three cameras inside it placed in an equilateral triangular layout found at the top center. HONOR calls the extraordinary camera module its Star Wheel Triple Camera design which inherits the iconic Eye of the Muse camera layout.

At the bottom, you’ll spot an HONOR logo and certification marks.

On the front, you get thin bezels all around the screen with a pill-shaped notch selfie camera at the top left corner.

There is also an in-display fingerprint scanner placed center located at the bottom of the screen.

On the right, you have volume rockers and a power/sleep button. The left side is clean no buttons or anything placed there.

Found at the bottom are a USB-C port, speaker grille, SIM card tray, and microphone.

While the top side holds another speaker grille, microphone, and IR blaster to control your devices.

Finally, the Honor Magic5 Pro has an IP68 dust and water resistance which can survive being submerged to a maximum depth of 1 meter.

Display

The HONOR Magic5 Pro offers a large 6.81-inch LTPO OLED screen with resolution of 2848 x 1312 pixels.

The screen has a dynamic refresh rate of up to 120Hz

It supports HDR10+ to stream high-res HDR content and peak brightness reaching up to 1800 nits.

Performance

The HONOR Magic 5 Pro is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 octa-core processor, 256GB storage, and 12GB RAM with additional memory expansion with HONOR RAM Turbo up to a maximum of 7GB.

You have a massive 5,100mAh battery that can quickly juice up the phone with the included HONOR’s 66W SuperCharge power adapter. The phone also supports reverse charging and a 50W wireless charging feature.

For sound quality, the phone offers a very good stereo speaker but no 3.5mm audio jack for your wired headphones.

The HONOR Magic5 Pro runs with MagicOS 7.1 based on Android 13.

Camera

On the camera department, the HONOR Magic5 Pro has a triple rear camera setup comprising a 50MP main camera, 50MP Ultrawide camera, and 50MP telephoto camera.

Found around the camera module is a laser focusing system for autofocus and depth mapping, a single LED flash, a flicker sensor, and a multi-spectrum color sensor.

For selfies, you get a 12MP front camera together with another TOF system for autofocus and depth mapping.
