Top cockfighters from around the world started to battle out in the second round of the elimination of the 2022 World Slasher Cup 9-Cock Invitational Derby at the historic Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The derby’s first elimination round featured 93 match-ups of the best cockfighters. Competitors with 2-0 record will move on to the 3-cock semi-finals on June 2, while those who scored at least a point in yesterday’s first round elims to stay in contention for the title.
Among the top fighters battling it out in the semi-finals are defending champion TJ Marquez, Engr. Rhemy Medrano, Antonio Celedio Jr., Nene Araneta, Caloy Colanding, Gov. Ito Ynares, Jun Gabriel, KGWD Man/ Dr. Lapena, Bimbo/Dr. Lapena, Danilo Garcia/Pando Lopez, Replica/Weind, PT/Francis Bagang, Bobby Torres/Lowell Kaw, Bong/Ronald Espino, Nyok/Tony/Engr. Canlas, BP, Robert Gaza, and Norman Bengco, all with 2-0 records each after the elimination round.
Rudy Reyes, Joemell Tanjuakio, St. Joseph, Paul Rodriguez, and Ronald Del Rosario will also move on to the semi-finals after scoring 1.5 points in the elimination round. Other fighters with 1-1 records each will also advance to the semi-finals after surviving the 2-cock elimination round.
The winners of the semi-finals will move on to the four-cock pre-finals and grand finals on June 6 wherein a new World Slasher Cup champion will be crowned.
Meanwhile, another 82 match-ups will be featured in today’s two-cock elims.
Competing in today’s two-cock elims are sabong idol Patrick Antonio, Nene Araneta, Cong. Laurence Wacnang, Doc Eddie Boy Cheng, Dre Lim, MBJ, Engr. Nerio Frani, Jun Topacio, Gary Tubianosa and Jay Soria, Eric Lu, and other top names of the sport.
This year’s World Slasher Cup has a total of 175 entries.
