Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank) is encouraging the public to stay safe and bank from home amid the coronavirus outbreak.
The bank’s reminder comes on the heels of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ call for Filipinos to use electronic banking and digital payment services to carry out necessary financial transactions at this crucial time.
By downloading the UnionBank Online app, non-UnionBank account holders can open a UnionBank account with their phone in less than five minutes, anytime 24/7, and use the account without limits or conditions. Clients can then opt to finish their application at any UnionBank branch, as they can pick up where they left off.
UnionBank is the first Philippine universal bank to implement real-time account opening via an app – a feature that was once limited to digital banks in the country.
Meanwhile, for those who prefer face-to-face banking, UnionBank also offers remote digital account opening in Max 5.0, where a relationship manager can open individual savings accounts right at the customer’s doorstep.
Testimonials from clients have gone viral on Facebook and Twitter, showing their appreciation regarding their overall experience and the ease and convenience of opening the account.
On the first week of the government’s implementation of the enhanced community quarantine last week, one UnionBank client reiterated that in this time of crisis, “online banking should not require offline procedure,” referring to other banks’ demand for their clients to sign several papers just to open an online account.
UnionBank Online’s digital account opening feature was a complete success that in just four months, the bank saw the number of accounts opened through the app match, and in some months even surpass, the number of accounts opened by the entire branch network of UnionBank.
