The Health Care System Meets the Technology

Technologies innovation makes it possible for humans to have an easy access in every aspect of the industry. But when it comes to a wise ways of using technology. It is undoubtedly that health and medical care is the area that truly benefited the technology. By allowing the medical professionals to have immediate health care to their patients’ medical history, data monitoring and laboratory practices.

As a matter of fact the use of technology started in late 1960’s and 1970’s computers are used to track medical record for the patients. It is called Problem-oriented medical record (POMR) founded by Dr. Lawrence Weed, a professor of medicine and pharmacology at Yale University.

In 1980’s and 1990’s computer desktop becomes significant, hospitals begins to invest this machine for better use in health system specifically in keeping medical records. This puts awareness of the benefits of Electronics Health Records (EHR). When it reaches in 2000’s it is the boosting era of modern technology such like innovated computers and smartphone for telecommunication and medical electronics equipment for laboratory procedures.

These are some of the highlighted contributions of technology in Health System.

Information Communication Technology (ICT) in health care. Since devices like computer, tablets and smartphones are prominent now a days, patients are given an option to manage various health concerns in their own homes. Here in the Philippines, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) strengthen the use of Information and communication technology (ICT) in health care system. There is a project called eHealth Tablet for Informed Decision making of LGU’s (eHATID). It is a software application for smartphones; the main use of this is to provide medical information system and decision-making support to LGU’s through an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

Telehealth/Telemedicine. An efficient tool to reach a health care to everyone. The agency of DOST contributed a product and services that is called RxBox, it is equipped with a blood pressure monitor, pulse oxymeter, electrocardiogram (ECG), fetal heart monitor, maternal tocometer, and temperature sensor. A device enables in keeping and transferring patients’ data. It aims in monitoring those communities that are in need for a faster and affordable health services.

Hassle-free online registration/payment in the hospital. It does have an advantage since it is time saving. There are patients that are not able and comfortable to fall in line just to process registration or payment requirements. Automated kiosks for electronic logging are preferable to use than having a Paper logs. But hospitals still need to be considerate, there must have a staff to avoid error or misunderstanding.

Technology boosting the health insurance. This type of insurance covers a whole or part of medical expenses of a persons it also includes medical benefits. This insurance is something that people must invest in, because it provides health plans and benefits for the people. In part of this, technology does play a role in promoting and running health insurance. There are a lot of health insurance in the Philippines. Those insurance has their own website where people can browse it 24/7 online. It contains the profile of the insurance, health plans, contact details, online registration and payment. Its like the engine will help to find a right health plan for the people.

Medical Electronics Devices. Equipment’s that can also considered as a doctor. There are such tools that are used in Laboratory and Surgery procedures. An electronics that can examine and cure. That is the significant role of Medical Electronics equipment without those devices Doctors/Surgeon cannot perform a better health care services.

Living in this era of modern technologies, increasingly plays a role in almost all aspects, it’s a big luck for the people that it’s continuously boosting specifically in the field of health system. There are such more that technology can do, expecting that in the next coming years it becomes even more advanced. But one thing that people must see is an assurance to both patient and doctors to live easy, safe and better lives.
