Sustainability and the environment take centerstage at the City of Firsts

Araneta City is actively taking part in this year’s celebration of Earth Hour through several activities that reinforce its commitment to promote sustainability and the welfare of the environment.

From March 15 to 27, the Trash to Cashback program goes to Araneta City in partnership with Basic Environmental System and Technologies (BEST), Inc. and the Environmental Protection and Waste Management Department of Quezon City. The City of Firsts will be accepting recyclable waste materials like PET bottles and old newspapers at the kiosk located at the Araneta City Bus Station in exchange for bXTRA environmental points that can be used to purchase from select establishments.

Online, the Araneta City Facebook page will turn green on March 22 for the Three R Digital Promise. Establishments at the City of Firsts will express their pledges to Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle virtually through the unique artwork of MM Dacanay using leaves. This aims to underscore Araneta City’s commitment to a greener future for all of us.

And then on March 27, Araneta City will take part in the largest global movement for nature as they mark Earth Hour at exactly 8:30 PM. The City of Firsts will turn off the lights to mark this important occasion. Aside from that, Araneta City will have an Earth Hour Virtual Spotlight which will feature on all social media channels a special video produced by the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF). Araneta City and WWF encourage everyone to share the video to their friends and family to cast a light on the state of our planet, the issues we face, and our place within it all during that said hour.

“Araneta City is one with the entire nation and the world as we put the spotlight on our planet,” Marjorie Go, Assistant Vice President for Marketing, said. “We have prepared several activities that aim to empower all of us to do our part in protecting our environment and promoting sustainability in every aspect of our lives.”
