Rocket Software Acquires Key Resources, Inc., Expanding Mainframe Security Capabilities

Rocket Software, Inc., a global technology leader that develops enterprise software for some of the world’s largest companies, announced its acquisition of Key Resources, Inc. (KRI), a leader in mainframe security and vulnerability identification and assessment for over 30 years.

The acquisition strengthens Rocket Software’s mainframe security capabilities and will enable its customers to address their mainframe infrastructure needs in the most comprehensive and holistic way. With the addition of KRI, Rocket Software customers will have the ability to standardise on their preferred mainframe security solutions.

According to a study from Forrester® Consulting, more than 80% of businesses know mainframe security is important. Mainframes hold businesses’ most critical information – from financial information to trade secrets to customer data. But the same study found that very few businesses take all of the steps necessary to protect their mainframes. Scanning mainframes for zero-day vulnerabilities—a significant attack vector in data breaches – can dramatically reduce vulnerability and improve integrity. To keep the wealth of data that mainframes process secure, businesses must prioritise mainframe security to avoid a potential crisis.

The combination of Rocket Software’s vast mainframe experience and KRI’s deep domain knowledge in mainframe security and assessment, means Rocket Software customers will now have access to comprehensive mainframe solutions spanning data, monitoring, workload automation, storage and security. By acquiring KRI, Rocket Software will have additional tools and services capabilities to help customers meet their security and compliance goals, even as workloads begin to span along both the on-premises mainframe environment and public cloud domain.

“Helping customers modernize their mainframe without disruption is our primary focus,” said Milan Shetti, President and CEO of Rocket Software. “With the acquisition of KRI, we will extend the world-class security architectures that exist on the mainframe to cover data and workloads that live in other places, including the cloud. I look forward to welcoming the entire KRI team to the Rocket Software family.”

“KRI was founded in 1988 to provide mainframe security services to organisations based on the principles of integrity, accountability, and communication,” said Cynthia Overby, co-founder of Key Resources, Inc. “We have long admired Rocket Software as a company that shares our mission and vision, and we look forward to bringing our suite of products and expertise to the Rocket Software portfolio, enabling customers to best protect their IT environments.”
