Review: WIKO 10 (6GB+128GB)

Bonjour!

It’s a French word meaning “hello” or “good day” and it is truly a good day for us here at megabites.com.ph as we have the opportunity to review the latest smartphone from WIKO.

WIKO is a French tech brand founded in 2011 offering smartphones and AIoT accessories with elegant design and great performance. Last June 2022, WIKO officially launched the brand to the Philippine market by unveiling their first smartphone the WIKO T50.

At this moment you’re probably wondering now how good are the products made coming from a French company? Is it durable? Is it appealing? And so on.

I thought it would be best to answer the questions and share with you the most iconic French brands of all time spanning many different industries from fashion, cars, and cosmetics. We have dozens of brand names which are familiar to you like Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Chanel, Dior, Peugeot, Renault, Garnier and L’Oréal Paris. In the technology sector you have XWIKI, Dassault Systèmes, VideoLan and more.

So, definitely WIKO is another tech brand that will be successful in the Philippines with products that will be iconic, loved and well respected.

For our review we have its new affordable phone the WIKO 10 dubbed as a French iconic entertainment phone under the brands new campaign entitled “We Cool with WIKO.”

The WIKO 10 is priced at Php 8,999 now available in all WIKO Kiosks, authorized distributors and official online e-commerce stores in Lazada and Shopee. It will have a special early bird price with a Free WIKO Buds 10 plus 3 months extended warranty for all purchase starting September 15 to October 6.

Mesdemoiselles and Messieurs I know present to you the WIKO 10, so let’s find out more about it.

Unboxing

The packaging box of the WIKO 10 is made of a thick cardboard material in an all-black matte color with minimal designs. On the top cover you can already view an image of the WIKO 10’s back panel, model name and a creative way of printing their logo in a spot UV lamination finish.

Opening the box you will immediately see the WIKO 10 unit and underneath it are the following accessories:

  • Clear Protective Case
  • Power Adpater
  • USB-C to USB-A Cable
  • Quick Start Guide
  • Warranty Card
  • SIM Ejector Tool

Integrating French Design

The WIKO 10 incorporates French aesthetics as known to be elegantly chic yet simple as evident from the colors along with the design of the phone. So, let’s see how the WIKO 10 gets an elegant and sleek French look.

The WIKO 10 has three available iconic color variants in Black, Silver and our review unit in Klein Blue.

Here’s a bit of art history trivia, the word Klein is associated with the famous French artist Yves Klein who made a great impact on modern art history as he patented the International Klein Blue (IKB). The IKB paint color shows a massive presence of Ultramarine Blue which Klein created with the help of a chemical retailer. Klein has painted around two hundred blue paintings.

The back panel is made of durable polycarbonate material with the pleasant and vivid blue monochromatic color all over the back cover in matte finish. With the matte finish it helps repels fingerprint smudges makes it more grippy.

For additional protection WIKO also included a clear protective case.

You can spot on the top left corner three camera lens housed in a rectangular camera module that are arranged vertically, and the LED flash is situated in the top right part. Below a WIKO logo is placed at the center with some certification markings underneath it.

I adore how the camera module gets this different shades of blue in geometric compositions like a Mondrian inspired design. As I scan on the internet, I found out that Piet Mondrian, the pioneer of abstract art and a Dutch painter mostly lived, developed and work on his paintings in Paris.

Found on its right side are an ultra-thin power/sleep button with an embedded fingerprint scanner and volume rockers.

The SIM card tray at the left.

Located at its bottom sides houses the headphone jack, microphone, USB-C port and speaker grille while another microphone is placed on the top.

On the front you have marginally slim bezels all around the screen except for the bottom chin that’s a bit raised. A tiny waterdrop notch that houses the front facing camera can be seen on the top.

I still managed to carry it easily with just one hand as the phone weighs only about 199g with the battery included and measures at around 168.3mm x 77.6mm x 8.98mm.

For its other colors, the Silver resembles the gray hues of classic European architecture like the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre. Lastly, the Black color disrupts the tranquil yet mystique pitch-black night, colliding decorative art with architectural structures.

Massive and Vibrant Visual Display

WIKO 10 comes with a large 6.74-inch HD+ display with a screen-to-body ratio at 90.69% to see and do more with its size. It uses an IPS LCD panel that supports 16.7 million colours and offers a resolution of 720×1600 pixels.

The screen refreshes at a standard rate of 60Hz. it has a pixel density of up to 260PPI with decent viewing and fine details on the screen enough to watch your favorite content.

Under the display settings you have some basic optional features like adaptive brightness, screen saver, adjust the font, make items on your screen smaller or larger. There’s also Night Light that makes your screen warmer to easily look at your screen and may help you simply fall asleep.

Considerable Performance

Under the hood the WIKO 10 is powered by a MediaTek Helio G37 12nm Octa-core processor with its chipsets comprising four Cortex-A53 CPUs 2.3GHz and four Cortex-A53 CPUs 1.8GHz for a better performance and power efficiency.

Internal storage on the WIKO 10 can grant up to 128GB for your chosen apps, music or movies. In case you still need more space you can further expand it via a MicroSD up to 1TB.

For its GPU it is equipped with a PowerVR Rogue GE8320 and bigger RAM at 6GB which is more than the recommended specs for an entry-level phone.

Below are our benchmark scores on the WIKO10:

  • A1 SD Bench: 23MB/s Read, 238.38MB/s Write
  • Geekbench 5: 178 Single-Core / 995 Multi-core
  • 3DMark: 456
  • PCMark: 5222 Work 3.0 Performance

The WIKO 10 was able to perform any task possible on what we can throw at the device from social media posts, browsing the internet, clear calls, watching our favorite content for hours and playing online games as well.

Playing games with the WIKO 10 offers us a decent gameplay experience. We were able to play some of the common game titles like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Call of Duty, PUBG and Asphalt 9.

If you want to listen to your favorite radio station the WIKO 10 offers an FM stereo radio you just need to plug in your headphones as an antenna. In the FM Radio app there are other options you can do like a sleep timer, auto search channel and record your favorite song or radio show.

As for the sound quality, here is where the phone needs to have some improvements as you mostly hear the audio coming out from a single downward-firing speaker at the bottom. It lacks bass as you mostly overhear mid-highs and higher frequency especially the voices are clear.

You can opt to have a more defined listening experience by plugging your wired headsets or we definitely recommend you try on the new WIKO Buds 10. We already tested it and the quality of the audio is fairly impressive.

Smooth and Clean UI

The WIKO 10 runs on Android 12 with a clean, near purely stock build Android with no other pre-installed apps whatsoever other than Google’s very own tools. The apps that you’ll have on the phone are the Sound Recorder, FM Radio, SHAREit, Calculator, SIM Tool Kit, Smart Assist, Clock, and Weather.

You can also customize your phone such as automatically fit your phone’s color palette to that of your wallpaper, dark theme mode, animated live wallpaper and adjust your font size.

It comes with built-in screen recording in case you want to record your phone screen during game play or video calls.

We like the Android 12’s user interface for the WIKO 10, it is pleasing with a modern minimalist and attractive youthful design.

In general, we have a smooth user experience with less bloatware apps on the WIKO 10.

Reliable Camera

To capture those memorable moments the WIKO 10 offers a triple camera setup comprising of a 50MP f/1.8 main camera, 2MP Depth and a 2MP Macro lens. WIKO uses a JN1 camera sensor with a unit pixel area of 0.64um and up to 6144×8160 pixels allowing more light and better color.

For beautiful selfies, it has an 8MP camera with f/2.0 aperture capturing 50%-60% more light to the sensor for better images.

The 2MP macro camera has a f/2.4 aperture and you should be able to capture as close as 4cm away to get a good closeup shot like food, flowers or even insects.

The camera app has a 5x digital zoom if you want to capture more details at a far away subject.

Shooting modes available on the camera app are Panorama, Video, Photo, Bokeh, Beauty, Professional, Night, Time Lapse, Slow Motion, Super Macro and Motion Photo.

For the portraits, the edge detection of the Bokeh mode in the camera app can be adjusted to attain a nice background blur. The Bokeh mode can only be used in the rear camera only.

It has a Night mode which enables the phone to capture even in dim light or low-light conditions to get decent photos. The Smart HDR function will create well-balanced photos in detail even in backlighting environments

For video capability, the WIKO 10 can capture 720p and 1080p at 30fps.

During bright conditions, the quality on the main camera will obtain a brighter, decent mid contrast pictures with good details and color saturation not too intense leaving you enough room to enhance in the photo editor. You can also acquire good photos inside a room or in a building if the ambient light inside is very bright.

Selfies looks decently sharp and lively during good lighting conditions. The quality drops down if taken on low light scenario’s wherein noise will be visible and a bit soft.

Video quality is almost the same as what we experienced on our photos they’re bright, sharp, colors are good on well lighted conditions. On low light situations, you can almost see the occurrence of noise in your videos. The only thing that’s missing is an image stabilization feature however you can prevent shaky videos if you have a gimbal or a portable handheld tripod.

Here’s our sample photos and videos captured using the WIKO 10.

Seamless Connection

For connectivity, the phone is equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 and Bluetooth Low Energy to link any wireless accessories.

It uses a hybrid dual SIM slot that can support either two Nano SIM card or 1 Nano SIM card plus a MicroSD. It is compatible with a large assortment of network like FDD-LTE, TD-LTE, WCDMA, HSPA+, DC-HSDPA and GPRS.

The WIKO 10 has an array of built-in sensors an accelerometer, digital compass, ambient light sensor while for satellite navigation systems it gets BeiDou, GPS, Galileo, Glonass and A-GPS.

Extra Layer of Security

For added protection, the WIKO 10 allows users to unlock the phone, open an app or authenticate a payment either thru face unlock or its side fingerprint sensor.

The usual screen lock is also provided which you can choose between swipe, pattern, PIN or password.

Massive Battery with Fast and Reverse Charging Capability

For its battery, the WIKO 10 packs a 5,000mAh that can last for an entire day but it will still depend on how you’ll use the phone. With the large capacity you can surely do more either for work or play on the WIKO 10 like playing games, video or music streaming, updating your social media and browsing the internet.

With the massive battery built on the WIKO10 charging it can be quick as it consists of a 22.5W WIKO SuperCharge capability. WIKO also claims that with the fast charging feature it can attain a 70% charged in 60-minutes while a 10-minutes charge gets the phone already up to 15% battery capacity.

In our actual charging test, the phone gets an initial 18% charge in just 15-minutes then the next 30-minutes it went up to 60%. We finally have a fully charged WIKO 10 from 0% to 100% in just 1 hour 36 minutes which is average compared to other phones.

Now, you don’t have to worry in case of low battery on your secondary phone or any AIoT devices as the WIKO 10 supports reverse charging just like your power bank. WIKO claims it only takes up 1-2% of the phones battery to charge up a headset at 40% or a fitness trackers at 25%.
