Review: Redmi 10C (4GB+128GB)

Launched last April 2022, the Redmi 10C is the latest entry-level from Xiaomi and a direct successor to the Redmi 9C from last year. Xiaomi aims of making high-quality products with an affordable price that’s accessible to everyone this is why they are introducing the Redmi 10C.

The Redmi 10C is priced at PHP 7,299 (4GB+128GB) and PHP 6,299 (4GB+64GB) now available in all Xiaomi concept stores and online e-commerce stores on Lazada and Shopee. It boasts of a dual camera setup, Snapdragon processor, large display and long-lasting battery.

Now let’s get to know more about the Redmi 10C as we share our thoughts and does it offer value for the said price?

Unboxing

The Redmi 10C comes in a simple box made of thick cardboard material with few elements printed on it such as the product image, models name, and minor specs.

Taking out the contents of the box you have the Redmi 10C unit, USB-C cable, 10W Power Adapter, Documentations and SIM Ejector Tool.

Design and Display

The Redmi 10C offers three colorways Ocean Blue, Mint Green and our review unit in Graphite Gray.

Starting at the back, the rear cover panel together with the frame are made of durable plastic material. You have a slight protruding square camera module that houses two camera lens, LED flash, Redmi logo and fingerprint scanner. It has a fine diagonal pinstripe line pattern design at the back in a matte finish which helps keep away fingerprint smudges.

The left side of the frame contains the power/sleep button, volume rockers while the SIM card tray is located on the other side.

A 3.5mm headphone jack can be found on the top then you have speaker grille, microphone, and USB-C port at the bottom.

Just by looking and holding the phone, the Redmi 10C is quite big. The front panel has a large 6.71-inch HD+ display with the front camera having a Dot Drop notch design. Bezels all around the screen are slightly visible with the bottom edge a bit large.

It has an aspect ratio of 20.625: 9 with a resolution of 1650 x 720 pixels. To protect against drops or scratches the display of the Redmi 10C gets a Corning Gorilla Glass.

If you like to binge-watch your favorite shows or movies the phone supports Netflix HD and Prime Video HD for a decent streaming experience. Other screen technology the Redmi 10C offers are reading mode, color temperature adjustment and supports sunlight display.

Although the display during direct sunlight the Redmi 10C is still adequate for outdoor use.

Performance

Inside the Redmi10C, it has decent hardware specs for an entry-level phone. It comes with a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 680 octa-core processor with a 6nm manufacturing process at 2.4Ghz. It is paired with an Adreno 610 GPU, 4GB RAM LPDDR4X and a 128GB UFS 2.2 storage with the knack to expand more via microSD card up to 1TB.

Aside from the 4GB RAM the phone offers an extra memory extension up to 2GB by occupying storage. You can activate this feature only when there’s enough storage space available on the Redmi 10C.

Here are our benchmark scores on the Redmi 10C.

  • Geekbench – 376 Single Core / 1557 Multi-Core Score
  • PC Mark – 6,572 Work 3.0 Performance Score
  • 3D Mark – 444 (Average frame rate – fps: 2.70)
  • A1 SD Bench – Read 749.68MB/s and Write 343.05MB/s

Everything worked well when we utilize the phone for basic function and entertainment use such as watching YouTube videos, updating our social media apps, browsing the internet, text messages and calls. We had no problems encountered like the apps crashing or a slow performance.

Sound quality coming out from the speaker grille of the Redmi 10C is decently loud when used in a closed room but struggles on a boisterous environment. It lacks a little on bass as you get more treble, too high pitched and clear vocals. I tried listening to my audio using a Bluetooth earphone which is much more fine.

Camera

The Redmi 10C is equipped with a dual-rear camera setup that consists of a 50MP primary lens with an f/1.8 and accompanied by a 2MP depth camera at f/2.4 to help portrait shots have that bokeh effect.

If you love to take selfies, the front camera on the Redmi 10C has a 5MP lens at f/2.2 with beautify and color filters built on the camera app.

There is also a face detection feature on both rear and front camera to capture a sharp picture of the face.

On the camera app you have four default camera shooting modes ready at your dispersal, they are Pro, Video, Photo, and Portrait. You also get some additional camera shooting modes like the Night mode for low-light situations, 50MP, Short Video, Slow Motion, and Time Lapse.

For video shooting, the Redmi 10C can record with resolutions up to 1080p (1920×1080) and 720p (1280×720) at 30 fps on both cameras.

Photos that were shot on the Redmi 10C are still sharp,  vivid colors with few noise quality during bright conditions. We experienced that color produced in some photos we captured was less saturated but you can do some editing to buff it before uploading to your social media.

Selfies are also good during bright conditions and gets an acceptable blurred background or bokeh if you use the portrait mode.

During low light especially at night the camera gets a drawback as you may get more noise and quality of the photos are muddy. Even if you use the built-in LED flash it will just decrease some of the noise.

Here are some sample photos and videos taken using the Redmi 10C.
