Review: realme 10 (8GB+256GB)

After the success of the realme 9 series, the Philippines no. 1 smartphone brand just recently launched the realme 10 as it will once again intends to appeal and dominate in the entry level market. And that’s what the new smartphone did as it successfully achieved another milestone with the realme 10 was instantly sold-out on both e-commerce platforms in Shopee and Lazada during its 12.12 Mega Pamasko sale.

Now, we have our hands-on review of the realme 10 to check on its features and why this smartphone is one great device.

The realme 10 has two variants priced at PHP12,999 and PHP14,999 now available in all realme concept stores nationwide, authorized resellers, and online e-commerce channel partners on Lazada and Shopee.

Unboxing

The packaging on the realme 10 is made of thick cardboard material and comes out with the usual signature yellow boxes.

Opening the box, you’ll immediately see a compartment box that holds some of the included accessories. After taking out the compartment box, the phone comes next then underneath it is the remaining accessories.

Included items you will be receiving are the realme 10 unit, SIM ejector tool, protective case, documentations, USB power adaptor, USB-C cable and a screen protector that’s already pre-applied on the phone.

Design and Build Quality

The realme 10 has two colorways in Clash White and our review unit in Rush Black color.

The Rush Black has an elegant color in dark blue with a gradient towards black and a unique finish effect sprinkled with thousands of glittering light particles. When turned from sideways you can also see a halo ring effect or light beams on the back cover.

You have dual protruding cameras with an LED flash found on the top left corner and a realme logo at the bottom. realme removes the traditional camera housing making the camera and the back look more clean or calling it the Unicover Camera design.

The volume rockers and an integrated fingerprint sensor into the power button are found on the left while the SIM card tray on the right.

At the bottom, you have the USB-C port, speaker grille, headphone jack, microphone and another second microphone located on the top.

The front screen has slim bezels except for the bottom chin and it is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The front camera is located at the top left corner and the receiver can be seen at the top center near the edge.

It’s comfortable to hold because it’s lighter weighing only 178g, thinner at 7.95mm, and the corner where the edges meet are slightly curved. The overall size of the phone is just right not bulky and for us it’s considered a pocket-friendly device.

The realme 10 gets a certification with TÜV SÜD 36-Month Fluency A-Level Rating which means that the phone runs smoothly when used starting from day one and after 36 months of use.

Display

The realme 10 offers a vibrant screen size offering a 6.4-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate and a higher touch sampling rate at 360Hz for a smooth and more better user experience whenever you interact with the display.

We experienced no input delays and it will immediately respond to your fingers at quick speed.

Aside from the vivid colors, the realme 10 pops out a bright display, text is very crisp, deep blacks and sharp images letting you enjoy your favorite movies or browse your social media in the comfort of your smartphone screen.

Hardware

Internal hardware underneath the realme 10 is a MediaTek Helio G99 octa-core processor with clock speeds of up to 2.2GHz capable of handling your everyday tasks running at optimal efficiency. As for games, you can be sure that the phone can handle it , too.

As for the storage, it has two options in 128GB and our review unit a large 256GB capacity with both variants expandable up to 1TB via microSD. It has 8GB memory but if you need more performance the realme 10 has Dynamic RAM Expansion, or DRE giving you an additional 8GB of virtual RAM for a total of 16GB RAM at your dispersal. For its GPU, it is built with an ARM G57 MC2 to support games look well, more attractive and pleasing to the eye.

Sounds from the realme 10 don’t actually use two equal stereo speakers but mostly come out from the single bottom-firing speakers that offer decent audio quality. It features the 200% UltraBoom speaker when at 100% max volume, you can press it one more time again to go all the way up to 200% making it more louder. Well, this is a good feature for outdoor parties and watching videos providing a full audio immersion.

We did some few benchmarks on the phone using Geekbench 5, the phone system’s performance scored 571 in single-core and 1744 in multi-core. Storage benchmark test using CPDT Benchmark app gave us scores with 749.25MB/s on sequential write and 481.35MB/s on sequential read. For the 3DMark Wild Life we got an overall score of 1362.

Camera

As you already know, the rear camera sports a dual camera setup comprising of a 50MP Color AI main camera with an aperture of f/1.8 and a 2MP monochrome depth sensor. You have 10x optical zoom that can be helpful if you need to read text or see things from afar. However, there’s no ultrawide camera on the phone.

The front facing camera offers a 16MP for your selfies.

The realme 10’s camera is equipped with ProLight Imaging Technology and Flash Night View Algorithm that gets 121% improvement in your shots during under low light conditions for more details.

On the camera app, you have an array of shooting modes already available starting with a night mode, street, video, photo, portrait and 50MP. Then you have an additional eight modes with PRO, pano, film, Slo-mo, time-lapse, dual-view video, text scanner and tilt-shift.

Shooting on portrait mode will give you access to some beauty and color filters to enhance your photo. You can also toggle the bokeh effect to your desired intensity of your background blur.

The street photography mode features a DIS Snapshot technology to capture sharp images even when your hands are shaking. You also get Quick Zoom and Instant Focus which instantly lock in focus distance to save time on refocusing your subject. You can set a quick launch of the street photography mode under the camera settings to open it by double pressing the volume button when the screen is off.

For recording videos, you may opt for 1080p or 720p resolution with available frame rates at 30fps and 60fps.

Here are some sample photos captures with the realme 10.

The photos below are taken during low light conditions with the realme 10 getting pretty decent shots having less noise, good details and not too soft.

Software

Right out the box the realme 10 runs on the realme UI 3.0 based on Android 12 with regular system updates of up to 3 years.

It gets a clean user interface with a lot of pre-installed apps such as Agoda, Bilibili, Facebook, Lazada, LinkedIn, Shopee, Spotify, TikTok, Twitter and Google native apps.

It also offers a lot of nifty customization from its wallpapers, themes, icons, colour palette, fonts and an edge lighting to light up incoming calls.

Other special features that comes with the software are a floating window and split screen for easier switching between apps and convenient multitasking especially for work. You also have a smart sidebar acting as a mini control panel to access and open apps quickly.

Battery

The realme 10 has a massive 5000mAh battery and equipped with a 33W fast SUPERVOOC charging feature ensuring your phone to quickly juice up the battery.

Charging the device from 0% to 50%  took us only 31 minutes with the included power adapter. You get a full charge of the device at around 1 hour and 16 minutes.

Under the battery settings you have more options like power saving mode and super power saving mode to optimize the performance or save more of your battery.

To avoid overcharging and control the charging speed during at night in case you fall asleep, you can turn on the optimised night charging feature.

We did a video loop test with a playlist on our YouTube channel, the phone’s battery at 50% went down at 29% after 3 hours with the display at full brightness and 40% volume.
