Review: OPPO Reno13 5G (12GB+512GB) – Sleek Design, Packed with AI Features, and Powerful Performance

As 2025 began, we received exciting news from OPPO Philippines that they will be launching their new flagship mid-range smartphones under the Reno series lineup.

The brand is set to launch the OPPO Reno13 Series 5G, featuring three new models with the OPPO Reno13 F 5G, OPPO Reno13 5G, and OPPO Reno13 Pro 5G.

Last year’s OPPO Reno12 series was a success as it showcase an impressive array of AI capabilities, a premium design, excellent cameras, a vibrant display, and remarkable performance. The latest OPPO Reno13 Series 5G takes it even further, improving the performance, new design, and battery life while introducing more AI-powered features. The Reno13 Series 5G lineup aims to provide users with the best Android experience at its price point.

We attended an exclusive preview to test the new devices and even had the opportunity to take one home for a complete hands-on experience.

So, let’s begin the review!

Unboxing

The OPPO Reno13 5G comes with the same familiar packaging design as last year, with all element placements unchanged.

It uses a thick cardboard material for the packaging box with an all-white matte finish. A prominent holographic foil strip creates a streak effect that resembles of a butterfly wing, and a large number 13 is printed on the top cover.

At the bottom of the box, a printed sticker is attached showing the certification marks, company information, IMEI, and model specifications of the phone.

Removing the top cover reveals a compartment box with some accessories, followed by the phone and underneath it are the other accessories neatly arranged in a plastic tray.

Here’s everything included in the box.

  • OPPO Reno13 5G Unit
  • SIM Ejector Tool
  • Clear Protective Case
  • USB-A to USB-C Cable
  • 80W SUPERVOOC Power Adapter
  • Quick Guide
  • Safety Guide

OPPO will surely delight its customers with a free screen protector already pre-applied on the phone, so they can enjoy the phone right out of the box while keeping the screen safe from scratches.

Design and Build Quality

We have two new colorways for the new OPPO Reno13 5G available in Luminous Blue and Plume White for our review unit.

It has a slim profile with thickness measuring at 7.24mm and holding the phone feels lightweight at 181 grams. The phone features a flat design easily seen on the display, back panel, and frame then complemented by rounded edges on its corners.

Users will surely be captivated by its back panel design. The first thing to note is that the entire backplate of the Reno13 5G including its camera module was made from a single 1.5mm-thick piece of glass that creates a seamless and premium look. Next, the precisely sculpted thick glass forms a raised camera effect for smooth and seamless finish, making the camera module stand out. Lastly, the semi-pearlescent satin white finish with a Plume texture creates a nice reflective streaks resembling a wing, it’s a new visual-look exclusive to the new OPPO Reno13 series calling it the “Butterfly Shadow effect”.

Located in the top left corner, there’s a triple camera setup with an LED flash inside a nearly square-shaped camera module. The two large camera rings are placed vertically with the main camera on top and the ultra-wide camera at the bottom.

The frame is made of a special aerospace-grade aluminum that protects the internal components of the phone as well as enhance its durability. It also features a heat dissipation system with frame partition technology. The aluminum frame feels cool to the touch and gives the device a more premium look.

The volume rockers and power/sleep buttons placed on the right side edge

The left side edge is completely clean except for a single antenna band.

The bottom of the phone holds a USB-C port, SIM card tray, speaker grille, and microphone.

The top edge has an IR blaster, a secondary microphone, and speakers for better sound and recording quality.

In terms of durability, aside from the aerospace-grade aluminum frame, the new OPPO Reno13 5G is competitive in the phone market with its IP rating. We are pleased that the device now has IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings, making it resistant to dust and water up to 2 meters for 30 minutes. This makes the device suitable for underwater photography, we will explore this further in this review.

Going to the front, the flat screen has ultra-thin 1.6mm bezels on all sides and a 93.4% screen-to-body ratio creating an almost edge-to-edge viewing experience on all your multimedia content.

The front camera has a tiny punch-hole design placed at the center.

Display

The OPPO Reno13 5G boasts a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1256 x 2760 pixels and 460PPI density.

It offers a high 120Hz refresh rate which makes the response of the display too good. We feel it when scrolling around the menu and supported apps it’s really smooth and fluid. You can also change the refresh rate to its standard to extend the battery life.

The Reno13 5G’s display is very impressive! It has good viewing angles, sharp details, and bright with peak brightness reaching up to 1200 nits, making it easier to view should you use it under direct sunlight.

The screen shows remarkable vibrant colors along with the built-in AMOLED panel that supports HDR10+, and color depth of up to 1.07 billion colors for a stunning visual experience. The display supports HD and HDR quality on Amazon and Neflix ensuring a high-quality viewing experience on these video streaming contents.

For visual health, it is certified by BOE SGS and Seamless Pro’s Eye Protection, reducing blue light emissions for a more comfortable viewing experience in both bright and dim lighting.

Hardware and Performance

Inside the core components of the Reno13 5G, it is powered by the latest MediaTek Dimensity 8350 mobile octa-core processor to enhance the AI capabilities, gaming, and imaging performance of the phone.

It is built on a 4nm process with four Arm Cortex?A715 and four Arm Cortex?A510 processors with a maximum clock speeds of up to 3.35GHz. It is paired with an Arm Mali-G615 MC6 for its GPU.

Our review unit has 12GB LPDDR5X RAM with a speed of 3750MHz and a 512GB UFS 3.1 storage for faster app startups, read execution, and rendering the AI processing capabilities. For improvement on system performance, multitasking, and switching multiple apps more smoother, there’s an additional 12GB Virtual RAM expansion, giving out a total of 24GB RAM.

Sharing the benchmark scores for the OPPO Reno13 5G.

  • GeekBench 6 CPU: 1305 Single Core / 3847 Multi-Core
  • GeekBench 6 GPU: 7342 OpenCL Score
  • GeekBench AI: 1578 Single Precision / 1579 Half Precision / 2003 Quantized
  • CPDT: 61 MB/s Write, 477.79 MB/s Read
  • PCMark: 13936 Work 3.0 Performance
  • 3DMark: Maxed Out

The new OPPO Reno13 5G now has better signal strength and a more stable connection, even in areas with weak coverage thanks to its AI LinkBoost 2.0 technology. It uses a 360-degree antenna design on the phone for a strong and reliable connection.

It also has a Super Low Frequency Antenna that improves signal strength in places with bad coverage, like underground parking areas and remote locations when using outdoors. Plus, a gaming antenna helps prevent signal interference when holding the phone sideways, ensuring smooth and lag-free gaming.

With this all-around communication features in the Reno13 5G, the device received a TÜV Rheinland High Network-Performance Certificate.

For mobile gamers, the phone features an AI HyperBoost to provide adaptive temperature control and frame stabilization during heavy intensive play reducing lag, overheating, and deliver high frame rates.

Adaptive Frame Booster smooths gameplay by boosting frame rates with less power like game titles such as Mobile Legends from 60 to 120 FPS and PUBG Mobile to 90 FPS consuming less battery.

With these extra gaming enhancements, it has achieved an S Rating in the TÜV SÜD Lag-Free Mobile Gaming test ensuring an enjoyable gameplay.

After hours of gameplay, the phone feels slightly warm but stays controlled, thanks to its improved vapor cooling system paired with an AI Adaptive Temperature Control to adjust cooling and slowing down temperature based on different games and conditions.

The phone also features an in-display fingerprint sensor and face recognition for its biometrics, both are easy to register, fast and reliable. Regular screen lock is available with Numeric, Alphanumeric, and Pattern for extra layer of security for unauthorized access.

You get dual stereo speakers that deliver good sound output, and with Ultra Volume mode, you can increase it further. However, this will only make the sound louder while reducing its depth. The Ultra Volume mode is much convenient for online meetings or calls, especially in noisy environments. With your wired and Bluetooth headphones connected on the phone you can enable the Holo Audio for spatial sound experience.

Camera and Photo Samples

On the camera department, the OPPO Reno 13 5G still supports a triple camera system with a slight upgrades. It has a 50MP main camera sensor with optical image stabilization, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP monochrome sensor replacing the 2MP macro lens from the last model.

For selfies, the front camera has been boosted from a 32MP lens to a 50MP lens and now supports a 0.8x wide zoom for better group selfies.

Here’s the specs of the three camera lenses.

At the top of the viewfinder, you have access to the flash, exposure value, Live Photo, Google Lens, and a hamburger menu. Clicking the hamburger menu reveals the other additional essential camera functions, such as the aspect ratio, timer, HDR, interval shooting, and settings.

The available zoom switch offers three options with a 0.6x, 1x, and 2x, with a maximum zoom capability of up to 20x.

The OPPO Reno13 5G also includes special camera filters found in the OPPO Find X8, such as Soft Lighting Portrait (Misty, Dreamy, Glowing) and Smart Scenes (Stage, Silhouette, Fireworks) allowing you to capture high-quality images in these various scenarios.

Camera Experience

In broad daylight or bright ambient lighting, the photos captured with the main camera produced images that are sharp, well-focused, have good contrast, and vibrant colors. While our shots with the ultra-wide camera are a bit soft on the details but offers good color reproduction and decent contrast.

In low-light photography, the phone can capture decent photos with some less noise present, as it smooths the image quality to hide it. Still, the overall quality is suitable for social media posting when you need night shots.

With the new 50MP front camera, selfies are much better and offer a wider field of view, making them handy for group photos. We’re impressed with the quality of our photos producing clear facial details, it’s bright, and natural skin tones even in ambient lighting conditions. You’ll get better image quality in your selfies in well-lit conditions, especially outdoors.

AI Photography

One of the best features of the OPPO Reno13 5G is its wide selection of AI camera tools, which help enhance your photos or add fun effects during editing. These AI features require a good internet connection since most of them run on the cloud.

Here are the new and familiar AI camera tools available on the OPPO Reno13 5G.

AI Live Photo captures a still image and records a 1.5-second video clip before and after you take a picture, all in one image file. The videos are stable thanks to AI, and you can share them on third-party platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp.

If your photos are blurry or low-quality, the AI Clarity Enhancer can sharpen them and improve it to a higher resolution for better visuals.

A popular AI camera tool today still on the phone is the AI Eraser 2.0, which easily removes unwanted people or objects from photos with just one tap. You can use the smart lasso to select, paint over the image, or let the AI automatically erase people or the object you want to be taken out.

The AI Unblur will try to restore previously blurry photos back with the necessary details, colors, and clarity.

AI Reflection Remover easily removes reflections and glare, giving you clear photos as if there was no glass.

The following AI camera tools will be available soon through a software update: AI Night Portrait enhances facial details, reduces noise, and improves clarity in low-light shots; AI Clear Face sharpens and enhance facial details; and AI Best Face fixes closed eyes in group shots.

The AI Studio app is a fun way to turn your selfies or your friends’ photos into avatars or AI-generated images. The app has been enhanced with more AI filter styles. Currently, you can choose from three options – AI Portrait, which transforms your profile photo into fun or fashionable AI-generated images; AI Reimage which converts photos into different artistic styles; and AI Motion turns static images into live photos.

Video recording is excellent with this phone. You can shoot in 4K resolution on both the front and rear cameras at 30fps and 60fps for smoother footage. A 1080p and 720p resolution option is also available if you want to save storage. For clear sound recordings, it features a tri-microphone system with Audio Zoom perfect for concerts or stage plays.

With its IP69 rating and a solid build quality, the Reno13 5G can do underwater photography using the camera app which includes a dedicated Underwater mode. You can take photos and videos using the physical volume button as the shutter control. There’s also a one-tap drainage function that quickly flushes out water from the device once you exit Underwater mode.

We tested the Underwater mode during the OPPO Reno13 Series exclusive preview event at Anya Resorts, Tagaytay. The phone withstood the pool’s depth as we took photos and videos, producing good image quality although some photos may have a ripple effect from the water.

Our underwater shot of the pool is clear and detailed.

A few important notes, OPPO also reminded us that the Underwater mode is only usable for up to 30 minutes and at a depth of 2 meters in fresh water, such as waterfalls and rivers. Avoid using it in saltwater, especially at the beach. If your phone has been used underwater or exposed to liquids, make sure to dry it for at least 2 hours before charging.

Software

The OPPO Reno13 5G comes out of the box with ColorOS 15.0 based on Android 15 operating system. All the AI features integrated into this new phone are made possible by this advanced and powerful software.

The ColorOS 15.0 continues to bring in customization options to personalize the device to your liking. It includes Flux themes, with five pre-installed themes that allow users to customize the layout, colors, style, wallpaper, and more. You can enable the Always-On display to view notifications, time, and date while the screen is off. You can also change the font, icons, and colors, and even set edge lighting on the display. There’s plenty of customization available if you’re the type of user that changes things up regularly.

OPPO is the only brand that has found a solution to share images, documents, and its AI LivePhoto with an iPhone. Yes, you heard it right! The Reno13 5G, through O+Connect and Tap-to-Share, can transfer files from Android to iOS.

Same as its predecessor, the OPPO Reno13 5G comes with additional AI tools designed for productivity or students. Take note most of them are cloud-based, it requires data or an internet connection to function.

The Smart Sidebar from the Reno12 series keeps some useful AI features that we like. You got the AI Writer that helps with writing, spelling, and grammar checks when doing emails and writing our articles. The File Dock lets you drag and drop items to store and share between other apps.

You have the Document app which helps users search for and view important Office files in various formats, such as documents, spreadsheets, presentations, or text files. The app’s embedded features include AI Summary, which quickly shortens long articles or reports into key points, and AI Rewrite that can improve the writing with options to adjust the tone from formal to casual.

Additional features in the Document app include Convert to PDF and the ability to translate documents into other languages, such as Chinese, Italian, Filipino, and more.

We feel that the ColorOS 15.0 is not just regular software with a sleek user interface and great personalization options. But rather, it’s a powerful system designed to enhance its AI capabilities to ensure good performance and smooth image rendering for users to enjoy the AI experience.

Battery

The battery capacity of the new OPPO Reno13 5G has been increased from 5,000mAh in the previous model to 5,600mAh, while still retaining the 80W SUPERVOOC fast charger. It’s so amazing how such a slim phone can now accommodate a larger battery.

OPPO claims that the battery will retain more than 80% of its capacity even after 5 years of regular use by the user.

In our charging test, the battery reached 29% in 15 minutes and increased to 50% in the next 15 minutes. A full charge from 0 to 100% took us 1 hour and 4 minutes. With the Smart Rapid Charging feature enabled paired with the included 80W power adapter, charging was even faster. The phone reached 100% in just 49 minutes, though it got slightly warmer.

With moderate usage, the phone’s battery lasted for almost two days during our test. Even with heavy usage we easily got a full day of battery life, which includes checking and replying to emails, watching hours of YouTube videos, listening to music on Spotify, scrolling through our social media platforms, taking photos with some editing, and playing hours of mobile games.

Like other phones, it has a power-saving mode to conserve the phone’s battery or you can choose from three available battery mode options – High Performance mode, Balanced mode, and Super Power Saving mode.

Conclusion

The new OPPO Reno13 5G brings some fine upgrades over last year’s OPPO Reno12 5G. The phone gets a fresh premium design especially with its unique “Butterfly Shadow” on its back panel and much better build quality than previous models. While having the IP69 rating allows users to take underwater photography making it a stylish yet functional device for everyday use.

With its stunning AMOLED display and ultra-thin bezels, it offers sharp detail and vibrant colors, making streaming and gaming more enjoyable.

Beyond its looks and visuals, the OPPO Reno13 5G also excels in performance built with the latest MediaTek Dimensity 8350 processor, AI-powered enhancements, and a generous 24GB RAM with virtual expansion. Whether the phone is used for gaming, content creation, or productivity, this device will have smooth and a lag-free usage.

With its triple-camera system featuring a 50MP OIS-supported main sensor, 4K video resolution, and upgraded AI photography tools, users are able to capture high-quality photos and videos while enjoying the advanced AI-powered post-editing tools for enhancement and creativity.

Lastly, the OPPO Reno13 5G receives a major battery upgrade equipped with a massive 5,600mAh capacity, an improvement over the traditional 5,000mAh battery commonly used on phones. With 80W SUPERVOOC charging and Rapid Smart Charging, the battery recharges quickly in less than an hour, so you don’t have to worry about running out of power.

Overall, we are impressed with the new improvements of the OPPO Reno13 5G. The premium design, durability, reliable performance, battery life, and the array of advanced AI features on the device makes it an ideal choice for those seeking an all-around and future-ready smartphone.
