Review: OPPO A6 Pro (8GB+256GB) – A Durable and Reliable Smartphone Built to Last All Day

And yes, we’re back with the OPPO A6 Pro for the full review as we’ve had the phone for more than a week now.

So far, I’m loving the slim design and how comfortable the phone feels to hold especially when taking photos, playing games, or scroll thru our social media apps. Plus, along with that nice flat look on both back and front helps for a secure and a solid grip.

You can check out our first impressions article here: https://www.megabites.com.ph/oppo-a6-pro-first-look-and-unboxing/, if you want to learn more about the overall design as we covered that in more detail there.

In our full review, we’ll focus more on the performance and the other features of the OPPO A6 Pro.

Durability

I want to start off by sharing more of its durability features. Again, the OPPO A6 Pro received a certification for its triple-level water resistance by SGS to meet the required standards. It has a multiple IP ratings of IP66, IP68, and IP69.

Some might say it’s a bit too much and does a phone really need that much protection? But for others, especially those who rely on their phones everyday like TNVS drivers, delivery or motorized riders, this level of durability is a huge plus for them.

Having multiple IP ratings means the OPPO A6 Pro has been tested for various real-world conditions, not just a single type of environment. The IP66 rating protects it from rain, splashes, and even washing; IP68 keeps it safe from dust and allows it to survive underwater for up to 30 minutes at 1.5 meters deep; while the top level IP69 rating shields it from high-pressure and high-temperature water jets think steam cleaning or extreme rain and heat exposure.

Aside from its impressive water resistance, we found out that the OPPO A6 Pro is built tough both inside and out with military-grade shock resistance that’s tested to meet strict standards against accidental drops, bumps, and everyday mishaps.

Starting with the exterior, the phone’s display is protected by AGC DT-Star D+ Crystal Shield Glass for scratch resistance and solid impact protection.

Internally, OPPO added several layers of protection, the motherboard is reinforced with an AM04 high-strength aluminum alloy cover to prevent bending, while underneath, the brand’s very own Sponge Bionic Cushioning technology uses foam and silicone pads that looks like tiny airbags can aid in absorbing shocks and keeping key components safe from damage.

Display

The previous OPPO A5 Pro 5G offers a large 6.67-inch IPS LCD display. For the OPPO A6 Pro, it gets just an inch smaller with a 6.57-inch screen, and this isn’t a problem at all. The display supports an AMOLED panel which makes watching movies or playing mobile games with better color accuracy, deeper blacks, and improved contrast for a more immersive viewing experience.

In addition, the smaller screen size makes the phone easier to handle with one hand, and the 1.67mm bezels (typically seen on flagship phones) give us plenty of space for an edge-to-edge viewing experience.

The colors of the screen offer full 100% DCI-P3 coverage in Vivid mode and support 1.07 billion colors as it gives out richer tones and smoother color transitions.

Other notable improvements include a pixel density of 397 PPI, a resolution of 1080 x 2372 pixels, a higher screen-to-body ratio of 93.0%, and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. This makes the display sharper, very responsive, and enjoyable to look at.

The screen also supports a smooth 120Hz refresh rate for fluid scrolling, while its peak brightness has increased from 1,000 nits to 1,400 nits for good visibility even when used outdoors under bright sunlight.

Performance and Benchmarks

Under the hood, the OPPO A6 Pro 5G is powered by a MediaTek Helio G100 octa-core processor with a maximum clock speed of 2.2GHz and paired with an ARM Mali G57 MC2 1G for its GPU. The previous model used a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 1 4G processor, with both chipsets launched just last year. However, upon checking, the MediaTek processor used has a slight upgrade in clock speed and is built on a 6nm process which results in better power efficiency. Overall, OPPO made a good move by switching to this processor, further extending the phone’s usage time especially with the massive battery it already has.

It has 8GB of RAM that allows users the option to add memory via RAM Expansion feature in either 4GB, 6GB, or 8GB RAM.

The internal storage can accommodate up to 256GB of space and expandable storage using a MicroSD card is possible should you need more space.

Here’s the benchmark scores we got for the OPPO A6 Pro:

  • GeekBench 6 CPU: 727 Single Core / 1989 Multi-Core
  • GeekBench 6 GPU: 1399
  • CPDT: 381.34 MB/s Write, 314.18 MB/s Read
  • 3DMark: 1354 (8.11 fps)
  • PCMark: 8205 Work 3.0 Performance Score

Looking at our benchmark scores, the OPPO A6 Pro is a solid mid-range phone suitable for everyday tasks from multitasking, multimedia entertainment, to casual gaming. It handles productivity apps and multimedia smoothly.

Gaming or watching videos for hours made the back panel feel slightly warm, but still easy to hold compared to other phones that we’ve tried. That heat remains well-managed thanks to its larger vapor cooling chamber and expanded graphite layer, which according to the brand has been improved with a heat dissipation up to 21%.

With the mentioned specs packed into the OPPO A6 Pro, the phone is well-suited for light to moderate gaming such as trendy game titles like Mobile Legends and Call of Duty Mobile run smoothly at medium settings. The device also doesn’t heat up too much, thanks to its vapor cooling chamber. Casual games such as Candy Crush, Subway Surfers, Solitaire, and others deliver a fun and enjoyable playtime experience for us.

Other additional feature for gamers is the AI GameBoost, which intelligently optimizes frame rates and extends gameplay sessions. There’s also a handy swipe-in OPPO Gaming Assistant Panel with customization options such as taking screenshots, using a voice changer, blocking calls, and choosing among three gaming modes for an enhanced and uninterrupted gaming experience.

Gamers will be happy to know that there’s a Bypass Charging feature, enabled through the Gaming Assistant Panel, allowing the phone to draw power directly from the charger instead of the battery as you play. This can help reduce heat build-up to the phone and extend battery lifespan during extended game sessions.

With its dual stereo speaker setup, (the secondary speaker is located in the earpiece area aside from the bottom firing speakers), the OPPO A6 Pro delivers good audio quality for media playback, watching videos, gaming, or just casually listening to music.

Vocals are clear, with noticeable mids and highs, and a slight hint of bass. But for a better audio listening, putting on a pair of Bluetooth earbuds makes it more pleasurable.

You can also use the Ultra Volume Mode to boost the sound by up to 300% for extra loudness which are perfect for calls, outdoor use, or noisy environments where the standard volume just isn’t enough.

Camera and Photo Sample

Camera-wise, the OPPO A6 Pro’s rear setup is equipped with a 50MP main lens with an f/1.8 aperture, using a 5P lens with autofocus. The second lens is a 2MP depth camera with an f/2.4 aperture that uses a 3P lens.

Our main shooter produced images that are detailed, vibrant, and have accurate colors in well-lit conditions. Indoor shots, as long as there is good ambient lighting, can also capture good image quality. Portrait mode using the 2MP lens performs very well as it separates the subject from the background with a good bokeh, just be sure it is taken in bright conditions.

We also took photos with very bright backgrounds and would expected them to be overexposed, with its post-processing the exposure was balanced and background kept some few details.

In low-light situations, we had the chance to try the camera during its product preview launch at The Fun Roof with some cool neon-lit hotspots. The image quality is fairly decent with minimal noise and a good amount of detail, though the noise reduction during post processing tends to make the image appear slightly soft.

The previous model came with an 8MP front camera, but this is where the OPPO A6 Pro really steps up, as it now boasts a higher 16MP lens with an f/2.4 aperture, 4P lens, and an 85-degree field of view that’s wide enough to fit your friends in for a quick groufie.

If you want to go away from still photos, you may try the Livephoto mode, which automatically records a short 1.5-second video clip with both motion and sound plus a still image.

For videos, the OPPO A6 Pro supports 1080p and 720p recording, with the rear camera offering two frame rate options: 30fps and 60fps for smoother footage. Meanwhile, the front camera records at 30fps in the same resolutions for your vlogs or video calls.

Battery

The battery of the OPPO A6 Pro 5G takes it to the next level with a whopping 7000mAh battery, a remarkable upgrade from the previous model we tried with a 5800mAh capacity. Charging is now faster than ever too, thanks to the jump from 45W to an impressive 80W SUPERVOOC fast charging.

The phone impressed us with its fast-charging capabilities with the included 80W SUPERVOOC charger. In just 15 minutes, the battery already reached 24%, and by the 30-minute mark, it was increased to 49%. It reached full charge from 0 to 100% in just 1 hour and 8 minutes only.

OPPO A6 Pro Charging Log

  • 8:15 – 8:30 – 24% 15 mins
  • 8:30 – 8:45 – 49% 15 mins
  • 8:45 – 9:00 – 72% 15 mins
  • 9:00 – 9:15 – 91% 15 mins
  • 9:15 – 9:19 – 96% 4 mins
  • 9:19 – 9:23 – 100% 4 mins

With that large type of battery capacity, the phone has reverse wired charging feature to top up your other devices when needed.

At moderate usage, we were able to make the phone last for around a day and a half with the following activities such as checking emails, browsing social media apps, watching YouTube videos, gaming, video calls, and taking photos for our sample shots. You can even stretch it to about two days or more if you’re lighter on usage, like simply scrolling through your social apps, listening to music, or sending messages online.

Network and Connectivity

The OPPO A6 Pro comes with 4G connectivity, but if you want faster speeds, the Coral Pink and Stellar Blue variants also comes with a 5G-ready model.

Connect your IoT accessories easily through Bluetooth 5.4, use the USB-C port for data transfers, and take advantage of NFC for convenient tap and go payments like MRT-3 stations.

To maintain a strong and stable signal quality, OPPO equipped the phone with its proprietary technology the AI LinkBoost 3.0. This feature intelligently adapts and optimizes network performance when you’re in weak or crowded areas, smooth lag-free gameplay, and even balances foreground and background data usage for ride-hailing apps.

Software and AI Features

On the system side, the OPPO A6 Pro runs on the latest version of ColorOS 15 based on Android 15. The user interface looks clean and modern, plus if you want to give your device a more unique look, you can check out the Flux Themes. The Flux Themes allows users to personalize their phone’s appearance from the Always-On Display (AOD), lock screen, system colors, wallpaper, and home screen.

What really surprised us was the amount of pre-installed bloatware right out of the box. You’ll need a bit of patience to uninstall the apps you don’t need. On the bright side, the phone already comes with all the essential Google tools like Drive, Gmail, Maps, Meet, and more.

Google Gemini is already integrated, which isn’t unexpected since most new smartphones comes preinstalled with it and more users are relying on it often these days especially us when we need more info of a particular product. However, Circle to Search is not available on the device.

Another feature commonly found in most smartphones today is the inclusion of built-in AI tools designed to enhance photos and productivity.

The AI Assistant for Documents is a convenient tool to easily summarize or translate specific documents. I really need the AI Summary as it quickly highlights the most important points only to grasp the key details of a two- or four-page document and giving me the relevant information I need only.

There’s also the AI Translate for foreign documents to be easily translated as you view the original and translated versions side by side for checking and easy comprehension.

When it comes to editing or enhancing my shots, the built-in AI Editor in the photo gallery really comes in handy.

You can choose from six smart photo-enhancing tools without the need for third-party apps. It’s free to use and just make it sure you’re connected to a stable Wi-Fi network for the processing to complete. The following are the available AI Editor tools:

  • AI Recompose
  • AI Eraser
  • AI Perfect Shot
  • Enhance Clarity
  • Unblur
  • Remove Reflections

Use AI Recompose to intelligently adjust the framing or cropping of your photo without losing key details. It typically applies the Rule of Thirds. Aside from cropping the imagr, you can also choose from available color filters and aspect ratios ranging from 1:1 to 4:3.

A popular editing tool, the AI Eraser simply removes unwanted objects, people, or distractions in the background.

Got a nice group photo but someone has their eyes closed? The AI Perfect Shot can suggest and replace it with the best version of your face. Just make sure you have at least 3 to 5 extra images for the AI to choose from.

The Remove Reflections tool can get rid of glare from glass or mirrors,

Unblur to sharpen slightly shaky images, and if you feel that your photos are not sharp, you can try the Enhance Clarity to bring out more detail and depth in your shots.

Overall, OPPO’s set of AI-powered editing  tools make your images look more poloshed and ready to share to your social media platforms in just a few taps.
