The new OPPO A58 seeks to deliver an exceptional mobile experience suited for young people who are looking for value and reliability.

In this article, we’ll check on its performance, camera capabilities, design aesthetics, and much more, providing you with a comprehensive overview of what this device brings to the table.

Whether you’re considering it as your next smartphone or simply curious about its capabilities, join us as we put the OPPO A58 under the spotlight.

Unboxing

The OPPO A58 comes neatly in a simple packed compact box made of thick cardboard-type material in a matte finish. The top cover box is composed of two colors a light gray and a darker gray color used on that rectangular band design.

Everything is very modest from the printed elements you’ll see around the box with only an OPPO logo, phone’s model name, and USP.

Opening the box, you’ll instantly see a compartment box holding some of the included accessories, and taking it out will reveal the phone.

Out of the box, you get the following accessories:

  • OPPO A58 Unit
  • SIM Ejector Tool
  • Clear Protective Case
  • USB-A to USB-C Cable
  • Quick Guide
  • Safety Guide
  • 33W SuperVOOC Charger
  • Screen Protector (Pre-Applied)

Design

The OPPO A58 is available in two color variants – Dazzling Green and Glowing Black.

We got the Glowing Black color for our review unit, this classic color presents a premium yet understated, serene look which we like.

It has a slim profile with a thickness measuring 7.99mm and weighs in at only 192 grams.

On the rear cover, it has a 2.8D curved back cover which makes the phone visually thinner and comfortable to hold for daily usage. It is made of durable polycarbonate material.

It uses OPPO’s Glow process for the back cover that gets a matte finish while having a nice subtle shimmering effect when you tilt the phone sideways.

Another prominent element you’ll immediately spot on the phone is the brand’s iconic oval panel camera area design.

You have two large circular camera modules stacked vertically on top of each other placed on a glossy oval base panel.

The bottom edge of the phone holds a USB-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack, speaker grille, and microphone.

Found on the right-hand side are the power/sleep buttons doubling as a fingerprint scanner and a volume rocker.

The SIM card tray is placed on the left-hand side.

It gets a bit of a wobble when you lie flat on a table or desk.

You have slim bezels all around the front screen except for the bottom chin which is slightly raised. Then the front camera gets a punch-hole design which is placed at the top center.

Display

The OPPO A58 features a 6.72-inch FHD+ sunlight screen, a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels with a 60Hz refresh rate, which works well in all environments.

The colors on the display are vibrant since it has a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut. You can select your preferred screen color modes with vivid and natural for a softer color.

Using it during outdoor scenarios, this display panel can emit a peak brightness of up to 680 nits.

The 91.4% screen-to-body ratio offers an immersive viewing experience. It’s perfectly suited to watch your favorite shows in high-definition, thanks to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video HD Certifications.

With an eye comfort mode feature, it is designed to significantly diminish blue light emissions while adjusting the screen to warmer hues. It prevents eye strain and safeguards your visual health.

Hardware and Software

The OPPO A58 is powered by a MediaTek Helio G85 octa-core processor with clock speeds up to 2GHZ. The Helio G85 chipset is built on a 12nm process and paired with a Mali G52 MC2 for its GPU running up to 1000MHz.

The MediaTek Helio G85 has an improved power efficiency compared with its predecessor.

It has an internal storage of 128GB that you can expand up to 1TB via a microSD. The RAM offers 6GB memory with virtual RAM expansion by either 2GB, 4GB, or 6GB. You can get a total of 12GB RAM to help the phone handle more tasks and perform much faster.

The A58 is equipped with OPPO’s Dynamic Computing Engine which is only present on its flagship phones. It’s a system-level optimization that combines hardware and software designed to boost the performance of the system while running heavy-loaded applications. It makes the phone’s system more smooth and stable at the same time avoiding overheating.

Our benchmark scores on the OPPO A58:

  • GeekBench 6 CPU: 427 Single-core Score / 1436 Multi-core Score
  • GeekBench 6 GPU: 571 GPU OpenCL Score
  • PCMark: 6711 Work 3.0 Performance Score
  • 3DMark Wild Life: 734 (Average frame rate 4.40 fps)
  • CPDT: 111.56MB/s Sequential Write (4MB) / 225.90MB/s Sequential Read (4MB)

The audio from the OPPO A58 has dual stereo quality mostly coming from its bottom-firing speaker grille. The brand claims that the volume is even 40% greater than its predecessor which is pretty much valid as far as the sound experience we encounter.

To turn things up a notch, it features an ultra-volume mode that allows you to boost the volume output of your device up to 300% of its regular maximum volume. It is useful in situations when you need to amplify the sound significantly like watching videos in a noisy environment or using external speakers.

Get more clear calls on your phone or using WhatsApp or Messenger voice messages by boosting the maximum volume by up to 200%.

You’ll be happy knowing that the OPPO A58 has a 36-month fluency protection to ensure and maintain a smooth performance after 3-years of continuous use. It averages an aging rate of less than 10%.

The OPPO A58 runs with the latest ColorOS 13.1 software based on Android 13.

It has some pre-installed software like Agoda, Facebook, Fineasy, Lazada, LinkedIn, Netflix, Shopee, Spotify, and TikTok. If you don’t like some of these apps you can easily uninstall them.

It also arrives with some Google services and applications already installed such as Gmail, Drive, Chrome, Maps, and more.

It has customization features, you can change the wallpapers, themes, font, and new vibrant color palettes. The icons are a bit rounded with high-contrast colors and the system font with better readability.

Camera

The two lenses on the back offer a 50MP, f/1.8 main camera with a 75.5-degree field of view using a 5P lens. While backing it up, the second lens is a 2MP, f/2.4 portrait camera with an 89.1-degree field of view.

The front-facing camera has an 8MP lens with an aperture of f/2.0 and an 80-degree field of view using a 4P lens.

On the camera app, you have the following shooting modes available –night, video, photo, portrait, sticker, time-lapse, pro, and pano.

By default, you have 1x, 2x, and 5x zoom switch options accessible in the viewfinder of the camera app. At the top end of the viewfinder, you have the flash, HDR, color filter, and settings. The digital zoom can go as far as up to 5x only.

The viewfinder on the front camera has no zoom switch options but offers an AI beauty filter that can smooth your skin.

So far, the camera of the Oppo A58 is pretty average it was able to bring decent colors with crisp contrast. The daylight photos look great with precise colors with the 50MP main camera.

Depending on the lighting, the lowlight picture will come out well if the ambient light source is very bright. Good thing the phone can capture good photos during low light with the night mode option.

OPPO’s night scene stylize filters allow users to enhance and stylize photos taken in low-light or nighttime conditions if you’re out in a bar or club. You can choose from a range of color filters like cosmopolitan, astral, dazzle, modern gold, cyberpunk, and flamingo to improve the quality of photos taken in challenging lighting situations.

The 2MP depth sensor brings precise depth perception with good skin tone and the blur effect on the background creates a smooth bokeh for the subject to stand out.

Battery

Battery life proves to be a critical consideration for numerous smartphone users, the OPPO A58 doesn’t disappoint as it provides a large 5,000mAh battery.

The phone is also supported by its very own proprietary fast charging technology with a 33W SuperVOOC to ensure less time tethered to an outlet.

During our charging test, it took us almost 1 hour and 21 minutes to fully charge the phone from 0 to 100%.

Keeping your phone alive is a constant battle especially if you have a low battery and you can’t charge. The OPPO A58 features a Super Power Saving mode to help extend the use of your phone maximizing that last bit of power.

There’s also a Super Nighttime Standby mode that recognizes your sleep time to consume less power loss to just 2% over 8 hours at night when idle.

OPPO claims that a full charge on the phone can give users 445 hours of AOD, 32 hours of phone calls, 16 hours of YouTube videos, and 5 hours of gameplay.
