The HONOR 90 Lite 5G was officially unveiled last September 26 along with three new devices – HONOR X6a, HONOR X5 Plus, and HONOR Pad X9.
Priced at PHP12,990, the HONOR 90 Lite is a stylish all-round smartphone boasting an incredible camera system, immersive display, and a range of smart features powered by MagicOS 7.1, offering excellent value for consumers who want a reliable and affordable device.
Here’s our review of the new HONOR 90 Lite 5G.
You can choose from two shimmering colorways available on the HONOR 90 Lite 5G – Cyan Lake and Midnight Black.
We got the classic Midnight Black color for our review unit. This colorway has a solid base color with a nanocrystal top layer that offers a shimmering effect when you tilt the phone sideways.
The phone has a slim form factor at just 7.48mm thick with a weight of 179 grams making it comfortable to hold and easy to operate even with just one hand.
The rear panel is made of durable polycarbonate plastic material with a nice matte finish that effectively minimizes fingerprint smudges.
One notable design element that stands out on this phone is its camera module. HONOR uses its dual ring camera design inspired by fine jewelry to make it elegant and unique. Instead of the usual circular camera lens, it’s more of a rounded hexagon-shaped design that looks like it’s splitting into two halves or overlapping each other. The top houses your main camera while the ultrawide and macro lens at the bottom. The base of the camera module is smooth and glossy.
The LED flash is placed separately from the module. With a protruding camera lens, the phone wobbles a bit when laid flat on a table.
There’s a HONOR logo and certification marks placed at the bottom of the back cover panel.
The frame of the phone is also made of polycarbonate plastic material with great structural integrity.
On the right-hand side of the phone, you have the volume rocker and a power/sleep button with an integrated fingerprint sensor.
There’s nothing on the left side edge except for the SIM card tray.
At the base edge of the phone holds the speaker grille, microphone, and USB-C port.
Another microphone is found on the top edge.
The front bezels all around the phone are extremely thin except for its chin which is slightly raised. The front camera has a tiny punch hole notch design which does not hinder my viewing experience.
Moving on to the display, the HONOR 90 Lite 5G comes with a large 6.7-inch Full HD+ Edgeless display with a resolution of 1080 x 2388 pixels, and it has a 90Hz refresh rate.
The display uses an LTPS LCD panel that provides better picture quality and is also lower on power consumption.
With a 93.6% screen-to-body ratio users can comfortably enjoy entertainment content on this spacious display.
Just like the HONOR 90 5G, this phone is also equipped with eye care features with a Circadian Night Display, Dynamic Dimming technology, and a TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light Certification. There’s an eBook mode that turns your screen into black and white to make it easier for your eyes while enjoying a comfortable reading in a dark room.
With these set of eye care features it aids users in promoting better sleep and reducing eye fatigue, making it ideal for individuals who spend extended periods in front of their screens.
A new additional feature offered on the HONOR 90 Lite 5G is a special screen cushioning technology. It uses a unique adhesive material to boost the phone’s durability to better isolate the water, dust, and dirt in the air or fingers safeguarding both the inner and outside of the screens.
The colors are vibrant on the screen thanks to HONOR’s Display Color Calibration technology which fine-tunes the color temperature frame by frame. It further enhances the user’s viewing experience with vivid, true-to-life colors as you enjoy watching videos or playing your best-loved mobile games on the phone.
The performance of the HONOR 90 Lite 5G during our test went remarkably smoothly.
It is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6020 5G octa-core processor with maximum clock speeds running at 2.2GHz paired with an ARM Mali-G57 MC2 for its GPU.
Powering together with the chipset is a large 256GB internal storage with no option for a microSD card to extend more storage space. You also get 8GB of RAM which you can increase up to 13GB with the HONOR RAM Turbo feature.
Here’s our benchmark scores on the HONOR 90 Lite 5G:

- CPDT: 271.48 MB/s Sequential Write (4MB) / 985.74 MB/s Sequential Read (4MB)
The phone performed very well in whatever task we could do on it. It’s smooth and we experience no lags at all, opening several apps that we use as it runs simultaneously.
Calls are able to receive with a clear voice output and good signal connection.
For biometrics, it includes a fingerprint scanner and face unlock which is a very responsive, accurate, and fast unlock system. You may set a 6-digit lock screen PIN for additional security for the phone.
There’s also a smart lock option that keeps your phone unlocked in some situations in cases when you place it in your pocket or you’re near home.
The device is 5G ready with support for two nano sim cards offering faster speed and a more reliable internet connection.
For gamers, you have a game manager sidebar to optimize your gameplay to take a screenshot, screen recording, or adjust the brightness of your display. You can choose your performance optimization between balanced or game. You may view the performance of your CPU, RAM, and FPS to check its status.

Audio on the HONOR 90 Lite 5G is pretty much decent as mostly all sound are coming from its bottom-firing speakers. The vocals are clear, mid tones are good but lack more presence of bass.
It offers dual Hi-Res certification making the sound quality good.
The device has an Extra Volume Mode feature that allows you to increase the volume of your device’s audio output beyond the standard maximum volume level. It helps hear the other person well during calls, especially during noisy outdoor environments or if you want to turn the volume up more when listening to music or watching videos.
The HONOR 90 Lite 5G ships with MagicOS 7.1 based on the latest version of Android 13.
There were a few bloatware apps installed on our review unit with Netflix and Tiktok while some are those we don’t usually use like Booking.com and Trip.com. Some gaming apps are also present on this phone as well as HONOR’s very own proprietary applications. We could easily uninstall them and install some of the apps that we want.
Google services and applications such as Chrome, Drive, Gmail, and more are already available on this phone which ensures a familiar and feature-rich Android experience for users.
The MagicOS 7.1 offers a range of customization options for your home screen such as themes, wallpapers, icons, fonts, and magazine unlock that showcase different images on the lock screen each time the screen is turned on.
So far, everything on the software experience was pretty good.
The HONOR 90 Lite 5G is equipped with a 4500mAh battery with support of a 22.5W HONOR SuperCharge
If you’re a moderate user the phone can last a full day with tasks like updating your social media, web browsing, checking emails, a few YouTube videos, and an hour of gaming.
With the 22.5W charger, 15 minutes gives you a 23 percent charge after 45 minutes fills the phone up by around 85 percent. It took us around 1 hour and 21 minutes to get a full charge on the phone from 0 to 100%.
