GaNFast Technology: More power and fast

GaNFast Technology is developed by Navitas Semiconductor Inc., the world’s first and only GaN Power IC company, located in California, USA which started in 2013.

The word “GaN” comes from two semiconductor material which is Gallium Nitride made of a transparent crystalline material and the “Fast” word means greater charging speed. It was first introduced during the 1990s which are a common material found in the production of the first white LEDs, blue lasers, full color LED displays you can during in daylight and in Blu-ray DVD players the blue light that reads the data from the DVD.

The advantages of having a GaNFast technology are the following: It can charge 3x faster on your mobile phones, tablets, laptops and other devices. It can conduct far higher voltages than silicon making it more power-efficient. Physically, it can have a smaller and lighter design because it does not use to much components unlike silicon chargers. They are also compatible with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge specification and it also works with the Power Delivery requirements.

Charging Test Results

First, I drained the battery of my Samsung Galaxy Note10 Plus to see how well it will charge the 4,300mAh battery. In just 2-minutes I got an initial 3% charge, then after 5-minutes at 5% more until I proceeded to wait around 20-minutes that juiced up the battery with a 32% charge. After 30-minutes the battery is now at 40% and after waiting for 1-hour I got a 64% additional power. It only took almost one and a half hours to completely get my Note10 Plus to get it at full charge. The Baseus GaN 65W allowed me to save almost 10-minutes of charging time compared to the charging unit of the Note10 Plus.

I then tried plugging my other devices at the same time which consists of my Samsung Galaxy Note10 Plus, Apple iPhone 6 Plus and my Macbook Pro with Touchbar that went smoothly. One thing I experienced was the charger begins to heat up a little which is expected. Remember, I am charging all these three devices in one charger and no worries as it got a built-in the temperature protection feature. I was happy that it can power up my Macbook Pro even though it’s using a 87W power adaptor, it can manage to charge it as well.
