Redmi Pad (4+128GB) – Full Review

Just last October, following the success of the Xiaomi Pad 5, Xiaomi again launched its latest all-in-one tablet with the Redmi Pad a budget-friendly alternative tablet to its higher-end model.

Dubbed as the All In One, Pad For Fun the Redmi Pad is perfect for all ages whether you’re a gamer, movie-enthusiasts, tech-savvy individual or the user who always needs to be connected.

The Redmi Pad offers users with an elegant design equipped with a fast octa-core processor, long battery capacity, quad speakers, and large HD display.

The Redmi Pad is priced at PHP13,999 (4+128GB) and PHP14,999 (6+128GB) now available in all Xiaomi stores nationwide and its official online e-commerce channel partner on Shopee.

So, let’s get to know more of the features sporting on the Redmi Pad.

Unboxing

The packaging box of the Redmi Pad is very clean and simple made of a thick cardboard material in all-white color. There are few elements you can see printed on the box like a Xiaomi logo, models name and an actual image of the Redmi Pad on the top cover.

Opening the box, you’ll immediately see the Redmi Pad unit and after taking it out there’s some mini compartments that holds several of the accessories that comes with it.

Everything you’ll receive inside the box consists of the following items: Redmi Pad unit, SIM Ejector Tool, 22.5W Power Adapter, USB-A to USB-C Cable, Quick Start Guide and Warranty Card.

Design and Build Quality

The Redmi Pad has three available colorways in Moonlight Silver, Mint Green and our review unit in Graphite Gray.

It’s an elegant and sleek looking tablet having an all-metal unibody made of aluminum magnesium alloy with flat frames and symmetrical bezels all-around the display. It weighs 445 grams making it easy to hold even when held in just one hand.

At the back, the rear cover panel is made of durable polycarbonate material having the single-camera lens at the top left corner, a Redmi logo and certification marks underneath it.

Bridging a thickness of only 7.05mm all around its sides you have the volume rocker, SIM tray port and two microphones on the right while the left is purely clean.

The top side portion has two speakers, a power button then another two more speakers and a USB Type-C port found at the bottom.

It doesn’t have a IR blaster and a 3.5mm headphone jack so you may need to connect your audio using your wireless headset or earbuds.

There’s no display protection of any kind making me worry if accidentally drop it as I carry along the tablet from one place to another. We would highly suggest to invest on a screen protector or a universal folio tablet cover case for added protection.

Display

The Redmi Pad offers an extensive 10.61-inch LCD display with a resolution of 2000×1200 pixels, which corresponds to a 5:3 aspect ratio.

It has a decent peak brightness of 400 nits and contrast ratio of 1500:1 which is enough to get you a clear good view of the images on the display even if you’re dealing with a darkened room. The device slightly struggles a bit when used outdoors especially during direct sunlight but indoors you’ll definitely have no problem making the images look better.

Another good feature built on the Redmi Pad it sports a maximum refresh rate of 90Hz which keep things smooth. For less power consumption you can still opt for the standard 60Hz. I would still go with the 90Hz refresh rate as it largely enhances your screen experience with scrolling through the apps, images and browsing websites becomes so much smoother.

The Redmi Pad can stream quality videos at 1080p on YouTube but we were able to go up to 1440p which makes the video improved its overall the image clarity. You can view at HD quality content on video streaming apps like Netflix, Prime Video or HBO as these services are utilizing Widevine L1 compliance.

The device gets outstanding eye care certifications from TÜV Rheinland for low blue light display and the first tablet in the world to receive SGS low visual fatigue accreditation helping to increase user comfort, ensure freedom of movement and reduce eye fatigue while using the device for long hours.

Under the display settings, there are a few different options to adjust colours and contrast based on your preference with vivid, saturated or standard.

Performance

The Redmi Pad is powered by a 6nm chipset using a MediaTek Helio G99 octa-core processor with clock speeds up to 2.2GHz. For its GPU it is equipped with ARM Mali-G57 MC2 which is an integrated mid-range graphic card. In our research, The ARM Mali-G57 MC2 claims that it promised a 30% boost in performance, energy efficiency and silicon density.

For our review unit, we have a large 128GB internal storage but if you want more space it’s expandable up to 1TB using a MicroSD card. We get 4GB of RAM using LPDDR4X a 4th generation of low power DDR DRAM technology that can help lower voltage to allow more power efficient memory and longer battery life on the tablet. It also has memory extension for the system to add another 2GB RAM making it 6GB RAM in total.

The Redmi Pad is equipped with quad speakers supported by Dolby Atmos® that throws out a good wide stereo sound effect aimed right at your face, it’s like a cinema kind of sound experience.

The audio experience was pretty decent with a clear voice, mids and high tones are very much present except for the bass. You can take advantage of the tablet’s built-in sound and equalizer presets to further enhance the quality of its audio. For the sound presets you have dynamic, video, music and voice while the graphic equalizer has nine set of presets you can choose from with custom, rock, jazz, pop, classical, hip hp, blues, electronic and metal.

Camera

Coming on to its camera department, the Redmi Pad sports an 8MP rear camera with no LED flash. You also get an 8MP ultra-wide front facing camera with 105-degree field-of-view placed at the center taking advantage of the display when in landscape mode. The placement of the front cam is good for an optimal appearance during a video conference calls.

On the camera app, you have a few shooting modes like documents, video, photo, short video and night. You also have facial recognition, auto focus and zoom capabilities up to 5X.

As for videos, you can record with resolutions of 720p and 1080p at 30fps only.

During sunny conditions or a very bright ambient lighting the camera can produce decent image quality.

Here are some sample photos we took using the Redmi Pad’s camera.

Software

The device runs on MIUI 13 based on Android 12 and the good thing there’s no bloatware here either only the Netflix app.

For work related files it has a WPS Office a free all-in-one Office suite to open files from Microsoft Office like Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

You also have Google Tools and some proprietary Xiaomi apps.

It comes with a new intelligent movement tracking feature called FocusFrame, when you’re on a video call it automatically tracks the person or subject keeping them centered in the frame as you move around freely. This takes out the concerns on the other side losing sight of you.

For easy and faster multitasking on the Redmi Pad, it has a split screen feature that allows you to open two apps and use them simultaneously taking advantage of its big display. With the split screen you can clearly see all your information in one place.

The split screen feature is very convenient as you can see in the photo I have the Chrome on the left and the other side the YouTube app

Connectivity and Biometrics

For connectivity, you have Bluetooth, OTG, Wi-Fi, Nearby Share and Mi Share allows you to send items wirelessly to other nearby devices.

For biometrics, it had a fast and secure face unlock while for an extra added security with the usual screen lock either in pattern, PIN or password.

Battery

The Redmi Pad boasts of an enormous 8,000mAh battery and coupled with a 22.5W charger that comes in the box using a USB-C cable. The tablet has support for 18W fast charging.

Charging the Redmi Pad for 15 minutes gained an initial 13 percent charge then after 30 minutes the battery went up to 36%. Overall, it took us around 2 hours and 52 minutes to fully charged the tablet from 0 to 100 percent.

Watching YouTube for 1 hour straight on the device consumed around 8 percent of battery only but standby time is good as it depletes about 5 to 6 percent on the battery if unused.

To conserve more battery you can turn on the Battery Saver mode located on the settings which lets you have an additional 7 to 8 hours of battery. Doing this will restrict the activity of system apps or some adjustment on the performance of your device.
