The realme 13 Series 5G is aimed specifically for the millennials and Gen Z, the generations who are passionate about gaming, Esports fans, and those with strong interest in Anime, Manga, K-Pop and Cosplay.
realme Philippines sent us the new realme 13 5G variant, we’ve already spent the past few days with it, we are still under embargo, however we are allowed to share its core features, and we’ll be focusing on three key aspects: the display, hardware, and gaming performance.

Unboxing
The new realme 13 5G continues to maintain the brand’s packaging design in its familiar vibrant golden yellow box in a minimalist look. The packaging box is made of a thick cardboard material and if you look closely at the top cover as well as its sides, it has an attractive striped line patterns with a UV coating finish to enhance the overall packaging design.
The printed elements placed on the front and sides of the box includes the model’s name, realme logo, and a 5G logo. The back portion of the box shows the key features of the phone, company information, IMEI, and certification marks.

Back side of the box

Removing the top cover box reveals an inner yellow compartment box that contains some of the included accessories. Underneath the compartment box, you’ll find the realme 13 5G unit and below that is a plastic tray holding the other remaining accessories.

What I love about realme smartphones, they come with a pre-applied screen protector which offers immediate protection right out of the box, so you can start using the device without worrying about scratches or damage. Plus, it also saves you the extra cost and trouble of buying a separate screen protector that will perfectly fit the display size of your phone.

Display
The realme 13 5G has a nice screen estate offering a 6.72-inch FHD+ display offering a large screen for immersive play and a high refresh rate of up to 120Hz for smooth gameplay.
There’s an eye comfort features to help reduce eye strain during extended play sessions.
It also has a Rainwater Smart Touch feature that ensures the screen remains touch responsive even when your hands get sweaty during intense gaming sessions.

Performance
The realme 13 5G is equipped with a massive 256GB internal storage enough to store or download your favorite mobile game apps as well as your photos and videos.
The phone comes with up to 12GB of internal memory, then you can expand the RAM capacity using the Dynamic RAM Expansion feature to improve the performance of the apps. This feature is especially useful as some gaming apps often demand a significant amount of RAM.
realme also claims that setting the Dynamic RAM Expansion to its maximum allows up to 19 apps running simultaneously in the background.
To reduce waiting, faster loading times and quick starup for your favorite games, the device’s physical RAM of 4GB can be used as a “Dedicated Gaming Memory” for enhance gaming experience on the phone.

A standout feature on the realme 13 5G that’s beneficial for gaming is equipping it with a Vapor Chamber Cooling System. During long sessions of high-performance games, it can help regulate the phone’s temperature which prevents overheating. It will allow the realme 13 5G for smoother gameplay, reduces lag, and prolongs the device’s overall lifespan by keeping the internal chipsets cool.

The new realme 13 5G comes with a GT Mode, this feature is usually offered on their flagship phones and it will now be available on this model. Developed to enhance gaming experience, the GT Mode is a performance-boosting feature designed to maximize the phone’s capabilities by optimizing CPU and GPU performance. It will in turn allocate the necessary resources while running the game to retain a stable 60fps, higher image quality, and maintain a low temperature on the phone.

To activate the GT Mode, pull down the top of the screen to open the notification center, find the GT mode icon and click it to turn on it

Gaming Experience
On the new realme 13 5G, we had no trouble installing all the games that we need for our review and we were able to test how well it performs during gameplay.
The phone’s FHD+ display is impressive as it delivers sharp details, rich contrast, and vibrant colors. It truly enhances our gaming experience on the realme 13 5G as it showcase the fine details or shades of the characters, environments, and every visual element of each game with clarity.

We started our gaming experience by playing Call of Duty Mobile, we opted to play under Medium settings. So far we have no issues and maintains a good frame rates. The frame rate can be set up to High although we felt a slight lag during gameplay.
For Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, it ran fine under high settings on both graphics and frame rate with up to 60 fps.
PUBG Mobile ran smooth as well under the HD graphics with frame rates set to High. The HDR, Ultra HDR and Extreme HDR graphics quality are not available.
We drove smoothly on Asphalt 9: Legends with no problems and lags under the highest possible settings.

On Genshin Impact, we played it under its default graphics setting of Low at 30fps, so far it performed fairly smooth with a few frame rate drops. We also noticed that the back of the phone gets warm after around 1 hour of playtime, but it’s still tolerable as the VC Cooling System is working to help dissipate the heat.

When playing lighter or casual mobile games on the realme 13 5G, it runs fluently and no lags at all, which will definitely allow you to enjoy extended hours of gameplay without any issues.
Here’s a summary of the game apps along with its graphic settings:

With GT Mode turned on, we noticed it tries to boost in FPS and there’s an improved in-game responsiveness. However, the back panel did become slightly warm, and there was a noticeable slight increase in battery consumption.
In general, the realme 13 5G can handle casual games with ease and performs well even with graphically intense popular mobile games we know. Game enthusiasts will enjoy playing on this device delivering a smooth gaming experience across the board.

As we are still under embargo regarding the full specifications, there are still plenty of other exciting features found on the new realme 13 5G that we’ll be sharing this coming weeks.
