OPPO Reno 12 F 5G – Unboxing and First Look

After the successful release of the OPPO Reno12 series last July, OPPO Phillippines will be adding a new variant and completing the entire Reno12 series line-up.

The new OPPO Reno12 F 5G is an affordable model in the Reno12 series that’s designed for OPPO fans and new users to experience the brand’s latest array of AI features. While the new device shares some design elements found in the Reno12 series, the OPPO Reno12 F 5G also boasts unique features exclusive to this model only.

So, let’s take a first look and unbox the new OPPO Reno12 F 5G.

Unboxing

The OPPO Reno12 F 5G comes with the same familiar packaging design using a thick cardboard type material, all-white box in matte finish, and the prominent holographic foil strip with a big number 12 printed on the top cover.

The box has a new “OPPO AI Phone” branding printed alongside the usual logo and model name as it highlights the phone’s set of advanced AI features equipped on the OPPO Reno12 F 5G.

At the bottom of the box, a printed sticker includes the certification marks, company info, IMEI, and model specs. There’s also a ‘Contains SOYOIL’ trademark which indicates that soy-based ink was used to print some elements of the box. It’s an eco-friendlier ink as it produces sharper, richer colors and bright images, and it also aids in the recycling process by making the ink easier to remove.

The phone is the first thing you’ll see once you open the top cover and underneath it are the other included accessories.

The OPPO Reno12 F 5G sits on a plastic tray, if you take it out you’ll see the accessories

Here are all the items found inside the box you’ll be receiving.

  • OPPO Reno12 F 5G Unit
  • SIM Ejector Tool
  • Clear Protective Case
  • USB-A to USB-C Cable
  • 45W SUPERVOOC Power Adapter
  • Quick Guide
  • Safety Guide

Users will be pleased that OPPO included a free screen protector already pre-applied on the phone for a great added value.

Design and Build Quality

For the new OPPO Reno12 F 5G, it gained a slight increase in weight and thickness compared to its other variants. It now has a slim profile of 7.69mm and lightweight at 187 grams, still comfortable to hold even for long hours of use. Additional measurements include the phone’s width of 75.75 mm and height of 163.05 mm.

The back panel is made of durable polycarbonate plastic material with a matte finish and features a distinct design and texture embedded on the panel depending on the color variant.

For the new OPPO Reno12 F 5G it will have two colorways with Olive Green and our review unit in Amber Orange.

The Amber Orange has a very attractive and vibrant orange hues which is inspired by the 2024 Color of the Year, Peach Fuzz.

The back panel isn’t entirely covered in orange color but features a appealing gradient effect that transitions from a light pastel orange at the top to a more vibrant shade towards the bottom edge.

To make this color more interesting and unique, the orange shade is overlaid with a texture that’s similar of flickering flames. It makes the color more standout with energy as well as mesmerizing when you tilt it sideways to appreciate the texture and shimmer effect.

What sets apart the new OPPO Reno12 F 5G is the brands very own innovative Cosmos Ring camera module design. The whole circular module design has a beautiful polished silver finish, while the camera lenses and LED flash are arranged in a cross pattern covered with glass on top. At the center, you’ll find a slogan that says “Innovative AI Camera.”

A Reno-exclusive innovation that’s integrated into the Cosmos Ring camera module is the Halo Light feature.

The Halo Light is a thin circular LED light found at the inner portion of the camera module. The special lighting effects can be seen in either a breathing light, oscillates between bright and dim in a circular movement, and blinks slowly. The light syncs with the beat if you’re playing music or lights up when there’s a call. You can even customize the colors depending on scenarios like charging, notifications, calls, or playing games.

Found at the bottom center is an OPPO logo.

Now looking at the side edge railings of the OPPO Reno12 F 5G, it sports a smooth and polished silver aluminum frame that never fails to easily get fingerprint marks.

The volume rockers and power/sleep button on the right side edge gets the same polished silver finish as well.

The left side edge is completely free for a more clean look.

The bottom edge holds the speaker grille, microphone, SIM card tray, and a USB-C port for direct file transfer to another device and charging.

You get another secondary speaker grille and microphone placed on the top edge to aid for a better stereo sound and call quality.

At the core front of the phone, it has thin bezels surrounding the display except for the bottom bezels which is slightly raised. A punch hole notch design at the top center for the front camera and the bottom has an in-display fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone or authenticate payments.

The included protective case is the same as the one that came with the OPPO Reno12 5G we reviewed. It’s transparent, allowing the back cover of the phone to remain visible to see the textured design, and features a stylish ribbed texture for a comfortable hold and extra grip.

The OPPO Reno12 F 5G is made even more durable equipping it with a brand-new All-Round Armour structure which consisting of advanced glass screen, high-strength alloy framework and sponge bionic cushioning design to safeguard the components inside the phone. This provides overall protection for the Reno12 F 5G from accidental drops and bumps.

If that’s not enough, the Reno12 F 5G has more additional layer of protection with an IP64 rating against dust and splashes of water. It even received a 5-star rating in the SGS Performance Multi-Scene Protection Testing.

Overall, the OPPO Reno12 F 5G is well protected inside and out to endure the different challenges encountered by any user while using the phone.
