Mapua Malayan Colleges Laguna Partners with Business College of Athens to Offer Master of Science in Shipping Business

Last March 21, 2023, the Memorandum of Agreement was signed between the Business College of Athens (BCA) and Mapua Malayan Colleges Laguna (Mapua MCL) at the Philippine Transmarine Carriers, Inc. (PTC) with BCA President, Mr. Harris Daskalakis and Mapua MCL’s President and CEO, Dr. Dodjie S. Maestrecampo. The partnership marks the beginning of Mapua MCL’s first-ever Master’s degree offering, the Master of Science in Shipping Business.

The Master of Science in Shipping Business will be under the Mapua-PTC College of Maritime Education and Training (Mapua-PTC CMET), which has been providing world-class education and training for the maritime industry. The program is designed to meet the needs of graduates & professionals who are unable to attend regularly taught classes but wish to obtain an in-depth knowledge of the operations of a Ship Management company.

The partnership with BCA brings a unique perspective to the program, as Greece is one of the world’s largest shipping nations, with a rich maritime history dating back thousands of years. BCA’s expertise in shipping and business education will complement Mapua MCL’s strong foundation in maritime education, creating a powerful learning experience for students.

The Master of Science in Shipping Business program is geared towards professionals and graduates who wish to deepen their knowledge and skills in the shipping industry. Students will learn from a faculty of experts with extensive experience in the field and will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources.

Here is the complete program description:

The Master of Science in Shipping Business program is designed for graduates and professionals who seek an in-depth graduate degree education through a flexible or remote learning mode with the aim of building a management career in the maritime sector.

The program teaches the theoretical concepts of the shipping business and equips its learners with the necessary skills needed to survive the competitive industry. It offers a comprehensive understanding of the rudiments of the maritime business particularly on how it operates, by clearly reflecting them in the modules offered, case studies used, and courses practically applied in the program.

It is designed to produce qualified specialists and business-oriented professionals who would pursue a career in prestigious shipping companies as charterers, shipping financiers, and other key members of the operational team by providing activities that would hone their decision-making skills, and by offering courses that would familiarize learners on the current trends and issues in the shipping business.

Dr. Maestrecampo shared during his opening remarks, “The Mapua PTC CMET is honored to embark on a new chapter of collaboration and partnership this time with the Business College of Athens the largest college in Greece specializing in Maritime studies, hospitality management, and entrepreneurship and the first maritime college to offer Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Ship Management in Greece. These tri part type collaboration brings together our sources and expertise to create an exceptional learning experience for our students by integrating international, inter-cultural, and global dimensions in the delivery of teaching and learning in research activities in maritime post-graduate education.”

The program is set to begin in the next academic year, with applications now open for interested students. The partnership between Mapua MCL and BCA marks a significant milestone in the education and training of maritime professionals in the country.
