Malayan’s TravelMaster with Covid19 Insurance supports Travel during pandemic

Malayan’s TravelMaster with Covid19 Insurance supports Travel during pandemic

Traveling, whether locally or internationally, under the threat of Coronavirus 2019 (covid19) infections, is more tedious and risky today compared to the pre-pandemic days.

But the good news is that insurance companies have stepped up their game to offer the best service and protection.

For Christopher Tangalin, a professional currently staying in Cebu City, he was able to visit his partner in Denmark a few months into the pandemic with the help of Travel Master with Covid19 coverage. It is one of the pandemic-fortified protection products of Malayan Insurance Co. Inc.

“That was the selling point; they had it available at the right time. The service was available early,” Tangalin recalled.

Another reason why he chose Malayan Insurance for his travel insurance was the desire to support local insurers as well.

Tangalin regularly travels for work and to visit his girlfriend in Denmark, which is part of the Schengen Agreement for European Union countries. He was relieved that Malayan Insurance had a Schengen embassies approved travel insurance product that carried Covid19 coverage as well as the Assist America emergency travel assistance service. Various embassies now require proof of travel insurance and Covid-related medical assistance when applying for visas.

The Travel Master with Covid19 cover provides medical expense coverage and hospital cash benefit of up to 14 days of confinement due to the virus, which comes with Asian and worldwide travel plans.

Last year, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) allowed non-essential outbound travel provided that the travellers must have the Insurance Commission-approved travel and Covid19 insurance coverage, proof of their round-trip tickets, as well as the submission of a negative swab test result for Covid19 before being allowed to travel.

Tangalin was no exception. He submitted additional documents prior to fly out of the country, one of which was a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for Covid19.

“Tedious in terms of cost also because I need to pay around P4,000 to P5,000 back and forth for testing, and there are also the quarantine requirements in the Philippines. Quarantine in Denmark is lax, we can shelter at home,” he added. Denmark also imposed the compulsory wearing of face masks in public transport and public venues, including airplanes and airports in August last year.

Another feature of the Travel Master with Covid19 coverage policy is that it may arrange and schedule the traveller’s PCR testing and non-Covid19 vaccinations (for flu or for polio). The free referral service is coordinated by Malayan Insurance’s travel emergency travel assistance partner, Assist America.

Malayan Insurance partnered with Assist America, a world-class travel assistance provider, for the cashless emergency travel assistance for Filipinos planning their trips abroad.

The insurer’s flexibility in terms of the services is what takes the cake for him, only needing to make a call to his agent in case for example of booking changes.

“The flexibility is in Malayan, the service is quite good. Overall, I had a very positive experience,” he concluded.

Tangalin shared his excitement to visit other countries with his girlfriend, and when the pandemic ends they plan to be travelling in Spain or Portugal. Good thing, Malayan Insurance is more than ready to cover their travel requirements.

Malayan Insurance is the Philippine’s number one non-life insurer in terms of Gross Premiums Written as ranked by the Insurance Commission. With 35 full service branches nationwide, Malayan is celebrating its 91st year anniversary this 2021, and is a member of the Yuchengco Group of Companies (YGC).
