Straight from the hospital where she went in for treatment just the previous day, motorsport prodigy Jacq Buncio did her family and fans proud as she crossed the finish line of the 2017 Pirelli Philippine Superbike Championship at the Clark International Speedway, thereby becoming the overall champion of the Heavyweight B Category.
Following the advise of her doctor and the team, Buncio finished the race on her own terms and at her own pace, and showed how much she was a pro, garnering 10 and 13 points in Race 1 and 2, respectively. She accumulated a six-leg total of 222 points for a huge 54-point lead over second-running Andrey Blinov (162) and a 56-point edge over third-ranked Edding Norbidieri.
This past year has been a milestone-making one for Buncio as she swept all six races of the series’ first three rounds at the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC) and the Clark International Speedway, clinching a perfect score of 150 points. It was a tactical ride the rest of the way for the superbikes’ star en route to the overall crown.
