Globe At Home scores all-time high in Netflix speed index, takes solo lead in June rankings

Globe At Home has scored an all-time high in the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) performance rating of subscription-based streaming service Netflix in the Philippines.

Data released by Netflix showed Globe At Home’s speed in the June Index the fastest among all players, taking the solo lead over the rest. It is also better than the overall rating of the Philippines pegged at 3.4 Mbps. Globe dominated the Netflix ISP Speed Index for 10 out of 12 months in 2021, taking the highest spot from February to November.

This reflects gains of Globe’s network buildup, which is in line with its commitment to upgrading infrastructure and introducing innovative solutions as drivers of economic growth and development under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

“Our dominance in the Netflix ISP Speed Index for the past six months reflects our commitment to provide a #1stWorldNetwork to all Filipinos.  Despite this strong performance, we continue the modernization to fast-track the fiberization of Filipino homes nationwide, with a goal to redefine the fiber experience at home with best value offers, 24-hour install and repair servicing, and strengthened ecosystem. This is part of our commitment to empower the digital lifestyle of Filipinos,” said Janis L. Racpan, Head of Globe At Home Brand Management.

Globe At Home is ramping up service amid heightened demand for connectivity, offering the right plan for existing customers, and providing frictionless online application and 24-hour installation on select GFiber plans for new customers.

The Netflix ISP Speed Index is a measure of primetime Netflix performance on a particular ISP and not of the overall performance for other services or data that may travel across the specific ISP network. Faster Netflix performance generally means better picture quality, quicker start times and fewer interruptions.

A total of 32 countries have reached the 3.6 Mbps mark, among them Australia, Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands, Singapore, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

In 2021, Globe spent a record high P92.8 billion to roll out fiber to 1.4 million homes, build 1,407 new cell sites, upgrade over 22,300 mobile sites, and install more than 2,000 5G outdoor sites and in-building solutions.

It allocated an additional P89 billion this year to further expand its network, with 470,000 fiber-to-the-home lines connected, 234 new cell sites built, 3,500 mobile sites upgraded, and 380 more 5G sites installed in the first quarter of the year.
