Full Review: vivo V27e (8GB+256GB)

Last March 2023, vivo unveiled its latest addition to its V lineup with the vivo V27 series. During the official launch, vivo shows off two available variants for the V27 series – the vivo V27 5G and vivo V27e.

The new vivo V27 series was dubbed as The Aura Portrait Master as the company encourages its users to radiate their best aura using their new technology with the Aura Light.

For our review, we have the vivo V27e model, let’s unbox it and see its amazing features!

Design and Build Quality

We like the classic color in Glory Black for our review unit. This unit doesn’t have a photochromic feature but shows a nice glitter effect when you tilt it sideways.

If you prefer a different color, a Lavender Purple is available on the vivo V27. The back of the Lavender Purple has a unique design as it uses vivo’s photolithography process to have a nice glowing peacock feather design.

The vivo V27e weighs 185g and has a thickness of 7.69 mm. The phone looks attractive having a minimalist approach with a slim flat frame and fluid design.

The overall aesthetics and ergonomics of the vivo V27e make it look sleek and comfortable to hold.

The volume rocker and power button are on the right-edge side. While the top edge a second microphone can be found.

The left-edge side is clean with no buttons whatsoever placed there.

The bottom edge holds the hybrid SIM tray, USB-C Port, microphone, and speaker grille. The hybrid SIM tray’ second slot can only accommodate either a SIM card or a microSD card for storage expansion.

There’s no 3.5mm audio jack for those using wired headphones.

It has very thin bezels all around except the bottom chin that’s slightly raised but not too thick.

The device’s front-facing camera has a tiny punch-hole notch design at the top center. You also get an in-display fingerprint at the bottom.

A screen protector is already installed to protect the display against scratches.

It has an IP54 rating against water, dust and can withstand falls from a height of one meter.

Located at the back, the rectangular-shaped camera module houses a triple-camera set-up placed in a straight vertical line along with the Aura Light. You can also spot a vivo logo positioned at the bottom left.

Display

The vivo V27e sports a 6.62-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz.

Looking at the AMOLED display panel, the phone produces rich colors, text is sharp, and good viewing angles. The display can automatically get bright even when used outdoors and is still visible during direct sunlight.

The phone has an 85.9% screen-to-body ratio and resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels.

The vivo V27e has SGS Eye Care Display certification that enables low emission of ‘harmful blue light to help lessen users’ eye fatigue even when looking at the display for long periods.

Performance

The vivo V27e is powered by a MediaTek Helio G99 octa-core processor with clock speeds up to 2.2GHz and along with Mali-G57 MC2 for its GPU.

You get 8GB RAM with support for a virtual RAM expansion up to an additional 8GB bringing the total memory to 16GB.

It has a large 256GB internal storage expandable up to 1TB using a MicroSD available on the second slot of the hybrid SIM.

The sound quality of the phone’s speakers is pretty decent all coming from its bottom-firing speaker grille. It can get loud with clear vocals, and good mid-range but the bass is not enough to produce low thumping beats. I would recommend using headphones or an external speaker for better audio quality.

Here are our benchmark scores on the vivo V27e:

  • Geekbench 6: 717 Single-Core / 1855 Multi-Core
  • CPDT: 411.55 MB/s Sequential Write / 208.34 MB/s Sequential Read
  • 3D Mark: 1245 Wild Life

The vivo V27e was able to operate smoothly on any tasks that we can throw on the phone. The overall experience was good from browsing the web, sending out emails to clients, updating our social media, watching videos, and even capable of playing your favorite online games. Playing Mobile Legends Bang Bang, Call of Duty and PUBG never gave us some lags or encountered any frame drops.

Camera

The vivo V27e has a triple rear camera setup comprising of a 64MP OIS Ultra Sensing main camera with a f/1.79 aperture using a Sony IMX 766 sensor. Then you have a 2MP macro camera with f/2.4 aperture, and 2MP depth camera with f/2.4 aperture.

A 32MP HD front camera with f/2.0 aperture for your selfies.

To get stable photographs and less shaky videos, the phone’s camera is built with hybrid EIS + OIS Dual Ultra-Stabilization feature.

Opening the camera app you have an array of shooting modes with a Night, Portrait, Photo, Video, Micro Movie, 64MP, Pano, Documents, Slo-Mo, Time-Lapse, Pro, Double Exposure, Dual View and Live Photo.

The newest feature on the vivo V27e is the industry’s first AURA Light Portrait System. Instead of the usual LED flash found on the camera, it’s now replaced by a mini LED ring light which vivo calls it Aura Light. The Aura Light offers studio-standard soft lighting to enhance and bring out more details of your face and bright skin especially during low light conditions.

For videos, the vivo V27e can record in 1080p or 720p resolutions available in either 30 or 60 frames per seconds.

When the Steady mode is activated, you can only shoot on both resolutions but at 30fps only.

Software

The vivo V27e runs on Funtouch OS 13 based on the Android 13 version.

It has a few pre-installed apps like Agoda, Booking.com, Facebook, Lazada, LinkedIn, Shopee, Spotify, and TikTok. You also have Google tools and vivo’s very own proprietary apps.

The Funtouch OS 13 offers tons of customization options to personalize the way you want it. You can customize the wallpaper, UI colors, and themes or adjust the size of the icons or their shape.

For mobile gamers, the vivo V27e has built-in game features with Ultra Game mode and Multi-Turbo that can improve your gaming experience letting you enjoy smooth and uninterrupted game plays.

Multi-Turbo automatically activates every time you start the game with a series of boosters to optimize the CPU, RAM, GPU, touch, thermal management policy enabled, and network connection to reduce stutters and lags in games.

Ultra Game mode exposes the game sidebar when you swipe sideways from the top left corner. It brings out some shortcut functions to further enhance your gaming performance. It has 4D game vibration, a voice changer, enables background calls while supporting hands-free, and hides floating notification alerts to avoid any interruption during gameplay.

The Ultra Game mode is very convenient as I can play without no interruption from calls and mute notifications coming into the phone. There’s also a record screen option if I liked to review how I played the game or use it to make content for my YouTube or Facebook reels.

Battery

Powering the vivo V27e to handle all tasks is a 4600mAh battery with support for a 66W Fast Charge to quickly juice up the phone.

Charging the phone in just 30 minutes gave the battery an initial 54 percent charge then after 30 minutes it went up to 96 percent. It took us only 1 hour and 6 minutes to fully charge the battery of the V27e from 0 to 100 percent.

Thru the OTG function, the vivo V27e supports reverse charging that allows you to use the huge battery of the phone to charge your other devices.

Conclusion

If you plan to upgrade or buy a new mid-range smartphone with a set of good spec-wised features the vivo V27e might be the one you’re looking for.

It has an attractive design, a vibrant AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, large storage capacity, and a virtual RAM expansion feature that can boost your memory up to 16GB. We also loved how fast the phone can charge immediately.

The vivo V27e is equipped with the industry’s first Aura Portrait Algorithm that offers a built-in mini ring light on its camera module calling it the Aura Light. Together with the 64MP main camera, the Aura Light portrait system can enhance your photos, especially for users who love to take portrait shots. The traditional LED flash usually radiates a harsh light, however with the Aura Light it provides a much softer light to the subject which can be useful when shooting on low light or night conditions.

The performance is smooth as you can do any task on the phone whether it’s for work or play.

The vivo V27e is priced at Php16,999. It’s a pretty solid device and a much better model than its predecessors.
