First Impressions and Unboxing: realme C55 (8GB+256GB)

If you’re looking to spend a little less and still get the best all-rounder smartphone on a budget. You might want to take a look at the new entry-level phone from realme. The company will be unveiling its latest offering in the C-Series line-up with the realme C55.

The new realme C55 positions itself to be realme’s entry-level disruptor armed with spec-wised features and shows off one of the company’s first devices to have its very own version of a Dynamic Island.

We have hands-on review with the new realme C55 for around a week. We unbox the new device and share our first impressions about the latest offering from realme.

Unboxing

As we’ve expected from realme, the packaging comes with the brand’s signature bright yellow colored box with a simple and clean look design.

The box is made of thick cardboard type material with the name of the device printed on the top cover and you can spot from the other sides of the box a realme logo. Printed at the bottom of the box are the main features of the phone and information about the product.

Inside the box, you’ll immediately see a separate compartment box holding the other accessories. The phone itself and other additional accessories that comes next is just underneath it.

Everything out of the box you have the following contents:

  • realme C55 unit
  • SIM Ejector Tool
  • Protective Case
  • USB-A to USB-C Cable
  • 33W SuperVOOC Power Adapter
  • Safety Guide
  • Quick Start Guide

There’s also a screen protector already pre-applied on the phone as additional protection for the screen.

Design and Display

Available colorways for the realme C55 will come in three variants with Sunshower, Rainforest, and our review unit in Rainy Night.

Users will love the Rainy Night variant as it looks premium and stunning in classic black.

The phone’s overall design features a flat edge with rounded corners for an easy comfortable grip. realme made it even thinner to achieve an ultra-slim phone with a thickness now at 7.89mm. They were able to do this by slimming down some parts like its battery, display, and built-in alloy material.

The back panel made of durable polycarbonate material has a distinct type of texture effect either a semi-gloss or matte finish as well. The overall frame has a matte appearance.

The striking black finish shows off a nice shower-like pattern and reflects a little rainbow color gradients when tilted at different angles. realme stated that the Rainy Night color is reminiscent of a dark and rainy night, but whatever they say, the color and design do stand out among the existing phones in the market today.

Still at the back, the Realme C55 has two huge circular cameras and LED flash found at the top left corner. These are all stationed in a flat camera housing that has a glossy finish and definitely attracts fingerprint smudges.

On the left side is the SIM card tray with support for a dual nano-SIM card and a dedicated microSD card.

The bottom part holds the USB-C port, speaker grille, microphone, and a 3.5mm audio jack for users who still want to plug in your wired headphones.

The realme C55 comes with a large 6.7-inch Full HD+ display that boasts a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels.

The screen can support a maximum refresh rate of up to 90Hz and is still decently visible during bright outdoors thanks to the 550 nits of brightness.

Hardware and Software

Under the hood, the realme C55 packs a MediaTek Helio G88, 8GB RAM, and 256GB storage.

A few initial tests on the phone has all the apps running smoothly and so does the phone’s interface. But we’ll be discussing more on the phone’s performance in our full review as we continue our test this week.

Powering the realme C55 is a big 5000mAh battery with support for fast charging using the included 33W SuperVOOC power adapter the device can charge up reasonably quick.

The software on the realme C55 runs with a realme UI 4.0 based on the latest Android 13 version.

The company has added a new and interesting feature in its user interface with the Mini Capsule. The Mini Capsule is found around the notch which triggers an animation effect and then expands horizontally to show some detailed information.

The Mini Capsule can show either the phone’s mobile data usage, step tracking/step counting, or battery charging status. For now, we were only able to see the charging status on the notch.

Camera

Shoot memorable photos on the realme C55 with its dual shooter supporting a 64MP main camera accompanied by a 2MP depth camera and LED flash beside it.

The front camera houses an 8MP selfie camera.

Below are a few sample shots with the realme C55 to give you an idea of the image quality of its main camera.
