7 Tips for a More Enjoyable Concert Experience

It’s no surprise that so many people from all over the world love attending concerts. Seeing your favorite musicians live is vastly different from simply listening to digital recordings of their music. Attending a great concert can feel exhilarating, relaxing, or even deeply emotional—but whatever the atmosphere, the experience of seeing an artist you love perform in the flesh is sure to be one you’ll never forget.

Considering that concerts and live shows have mostly been on hold over the pandemic years, live music enthusiasts will definitely be eager for their faves to start touring again. And if you’re one of those fans who’s just jumping at the chance to go to a concert after so long, you may also be wondering how to make the experience extra-special. Read on for a few helpful tips on how to make the most of your next concert, music festival, or other live music events.

Consider Booking Lodging in the Area

If the theater, stadium, or venue where your concert will be held is far away from where you live, you may want to consider renting out accommodation in the vicinity on the day of the event. This will give you a safe and comfortable place to get ready for the concert without having to worry about getting stuck in traffic, finding transportation, or possibly arriving late. Having a rented apartment or a hotel room nearby also means you’ll be able to put up your feet and rest sooner at the end of the night.

As an example, many large concerts in Metro Manila are held at the Mall of Asia Arena, which is one of the biggest and most established sports and entertainment venues in the region. Due to the venue’s size and road conditions in the area, you can usually expect heavy traffic in the area on event days. Thus, concert-goers coming from far away will definitely want to book a room at a hotel near MoA for minimal inconvenience.

Buy Tickets Well in Advance

Ticket sales for a concert usually open a few months in advance, and there are plenty of reasons to grab your ticket as early as possible. For one thing, ticket prices are likely to be lower during the pre-selling period than leading up to the day itself. Furthermore, if the concert is for a popular artist with a large and loyal fanbase, there’s a high chance that tickets may sell out before you can buy them if you don’t get a head start.

Dress Comfortably

Though some people go to live shows to see and be seen, bear in mind that concerts can be crowded, hot, and physically tiring experiences. You may want to skip out on the fancy outfits and uncomfortable footwear and instead opt for a more comfortable, breathable ensemble you can easily move around in. Snug and durable shoes are a must if you anticipate that you’ll be standing for most or all of the show.

Dressing appropriately is especially important if the concert is at an outdoor venue, where you’ll be exposed to the elements as well as the crowd. Check the weather forecast for the day of the show and try to plan your outfit around that.

Head to the Venue Early

If you’ve gotten a ticket in a section of the venue that’s standing room only or has no reserved seating, then you must arrive there as early as possible to secure a spot with a good view. And even if your seat is reserved, showing up early means you have a high chance of getting a better place in the entry line. You also won’t have to compete with other attendees for a parking space if you decide to take a car.

Bring Snacks and Water If Possible

Concerts are long events that can run for 3 hours or more, which means you’re bound to get hungry or thirsty at some point. While some venues only allow you to bring in food and drink purchased at the venue itself, some will let you bring your own. Packing your own snacks and water bottle will save you money. It’ll also enable you to spend more time enjoying the show since you won’t have to walk off and purchase something to eat elsewhere.

Charge Your Phone Fully

You’ll want your phone fully charged for taking photos and videos, contacting any friends you’ll be attending with, booking a ride home, and other necessary tasks on the day of the concert. Since there probably won’t be any plugs or charging stations at the venue, consider packing a power bank just in case.

Be Fully Engaged

While it’s common practice for people to take pictures or film parts of their favorite concerts for sharing on social media or reviewing later, watching the whole show through your phone screen can disconnect you from the experience. Try to set your phone aside for most of the concert so you can immerse yourself in the moment and enjoy it to the fullest.

At the end of the day, a little preparation and planning are required to ensure that your next concert experience is as fun and memorable as you hope it will be. Follow the tips above and the next live show you attend is sure to be one you look back on fondly for years to come.
